Dear Parents & Carers,
Dear all,
It was a pleasure to see so many of you at the sports days at the end of last week, and I take this opportunity to thank you again for your support. I must also repeat my message of thanks to the competitors – it was a pleasure to see so many impressive performances and to witness such commendable sportsmanship, compassion and support for each other. As I have said and written before, with children like these, our future is in safe hands.
Back here at Treliske House, we have again returned to the significance of making good choices, particularly during times when we are tired and less tolerant than usual. We also explored the importance of being true to oneself and how such honesty and integrity are beneficial for both the individual and the community.
‘The Guy in the Glass’ by Dale Wimbrow (this week’s ‘quote’ of the week) rather neatly sums up the importance of such values:

The Guy in the Glass
If you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you a champion for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.
For it isn’t your father, or mother, or brother,
Who upon you their judgment will pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.
He’s the feller to please—never mind all the rest!
For he’s with you clear up to the end.
And you’ve passed your most difficult test,
If the guy in the glass is your friend.…
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back, as you pass,
But your final reward will be headache or tears,
If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.

Running parallel to this has been the customary programme of exciting and engaging activities which have, this week, included ongoing preparation for the Year 6 production of Bugsy Malone and the Prep School Summer Concert, a trip to Perranporth to study coasts, MFL German cookery at the Senior School, coast-to-coast cycle rides, kayaking and visits from prospective parents, governors and Dan Simons, the Truro School Prep Head elect.
Wednesday also paid host to the Year 6 Maths Diploma Careers Fair – an opportunity for the children to research a chosen career and then to present their own to pupils, parents and members of the wider community. Over the course of three hours, they engaged with more than 250 visitors, and their confidence, knowledge and enthusiasm were outstanding.
Remaining on the topic of mathematics, I take this opportunity to congratulate Barney (Yr6) upon his success in the National Junior Mathematics Challenge. Competing against pupils up to Year 8, Barney qualified for the ‘Junior Kangaroo round’ and was awarded a Bronze award – the furthest a Truro School Prep pupil has progressed in this competition.
Changing tack but remaining with congratulations, well done to all the athletes who attended the regional qualifying event at Kelly College on Sunday and particularly to Evie C, Jack L, Sienna S and Rafe G, whose performances qualified them for the IAPS National Championships which will take place at the Alexandra Stadium, Birmingham, in July.
Looking to the future, I am sure that you will join me in wishing good luck to the Year 4s who camp overnight in school this evening. They have an exciting programme ahead of them, and I am relieved to report that the forecast is clement.
Finally, tomorrow (Saturday, 20th June) is Community Day at Truro School, and I hope that I will see many of you there.
Whatever your plans, I wish you an enjoyable weekend with your lovely children.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse
Head of Prep

High Temperatures Next Week
The Met Office predicts high temperatures on Monday and Tuesday and has issued an amber heat alert for the Southwest.
As ever, we will do our utmost to ensure that the children remain safe, comfortable and cared for.
We have already reminded the children (as we do on a regular basis) of the importance of sun hats, water bottles and sun block. Please would you be so kind as to ensure that they are suitably prepared and equipped next week?
With thanks as always for your support.
