Academic Environment

At Truro School Sixth Form you can rest assured that we have excellent teaching staff.

Inspectors recently recognised our talented and dedicated teachers by awarding us ‘Double Excellent’ status, the top grades possible. Coupled with small class sizes, an excellent range of extension studies and supra-curricular opportunities, excellent facilities and a personalised support network, our teachers have the time to fully understand how you learn best, providing outstanding progression and support.

Excellent Academic Achievements

Truro School Sixth Form has been identified as the leading co-educational A-Level provider in Cornwall in the Department for Education School Performance Tables, for both the average grade received and percentage of students achieving AAB or higher in at least two facilitating subjects.

With 104 students taking A-Level exams, by far the largest independent school Sixth Form in Cornwall, the data shows Truro School students received an average points score of 39.98 (Grade B), with 20% of Truro School’s Sixth Form achieving AAB, or higher, in at least two facilitating subjects. This compares to a county average of 15.4%.

Headmaster, Mr Gordon-Brown commented,

“Here at Truro School, we believe that, whilst our excellent examination results and university outcomes speak for themselves, they should only be the culmination of a memorable two years that help our students to develop as well-rounded individuals.”

Small class sizes

With class sizes never exceeding 16, and even smaller tutor groups, our teachers have the time to fully understand how you learn best, providing outstanding progression and support.

Extended learning opportunities

From leading guest speakers in the Burrell Theatre to opportunities to represent the school through national competitions and contests, there are a huge range of extended learning opportunities available.

Academic extensions

Our academic extensions make for impressive elements on CVs and Personal Statements, giving you the ability to stand head and shoulders above competing candidates when it comes to university or job interviews.

Weekly clinics

Clinics offer small group assistance, providing you with individualised academic support when you need it most.

Supra-curricular activities

Each department will point students toward areas of supra-curricular activities, both within and outside the School environment, to support your A-Level learning and evidence, for universities, your depth of knowledge.

Personal Mentor

Regular meetings with your personal mentor to discuss progress in subjects and involvement in co-curricular, ensuring the balance is right.
