Early Years curriculum with specialist teaching

Truro School Nursery accepts pupils from the age of three, allowing your child to get one step ahead in their development. As an independent school, we have the freedom to create our own curriculum, one that nurtures and challenges young minds.

Located within the secure grounds of Willday House, our setting is a safe environment where learning comes to life, and, when it comes to lessons, our specialist teachers always have something fun up their sleeves. Running alongside phonics and early numeracy, we offer a range of subjects taught by specialist teachers.

Learning, playing and growing together

Every child develops at their own pace, and our Early Years curriculum is designed to support each stage of that journey. Through a balance of structured learning and purposeful play, children begin to develop early language, communication and number skills, while building confidence, independence and friendships.

Our experienced teachers get to know each child as an individual, creating opportunities to follow their interests, discover new things and develop a genuine enjoyment of learning.

Forest School in our Enchanted Garden and Wild Woods

Weekly sessions of Forest School are taught by a specialist teacher in our Enchanted Garden and Wild Woods. These sessions allow pupils to learn at their own pace by developing curiosity in the world around them, which in turn feeds back into their learning in the classroom.

Swimming and PE with specialist teachers

As a part of our unique curriculum, we make great use of the school’s heated indoor swimming pool and specialist swimming teachers. In the Early Years, learning to swim is fun and is developed through play and exploration to encourage children to become safe and competent swimmers.

Swimming sits alongside our PE curriculum, also taught by a specialist teacher, which provides a further games-led session each week.

Music, movement and creative expression

Music is a prominent feature of life at Truro School Nursery. Our passionate staff regularly bring learning to life with opportunities for song and dance.

Discovering Spanish through play

We offer Spanish lessons, combining song, dance and games to help develop a lifelong love of learning.

We believe that an all-round approach to education is essential in helping every child thrive. As well as developing your child’s speaking, reading, writing and numerical skills, our balanced curriculum places equal emphasis on the wider aspects of education, including self-confidence, social skills and managing feelings. Truro School Nursery is a place where children flourish in all areas.
