09.05.2025 Prep Bulletin

Dear Parents & Carers,

Whilst it is clear that everyone enjoyed the long bank holiday weekend, it has been a pleasure to return to action here at Truro School Prep. We have done our very best to squeeze a full week’s events and activities into the past four days.

Tuesday was given over to World AIMS (Action in Methodist Schools) Day, and we took the opportunity to explore the concept of ‘freedom’ with particular (and age-appropriate) focus upon freedom from poverty, freedom from pollution and freedom from unjust imprisonment.

Wednesday and Thursday saw our attention move to the commemoration of VE Day. We emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by so many before ensuring that we make the most of the opportunities that we ourselves have been given.

Friday’s events were more parent-focused. Firstly, the Open Book Look for parents of children in Year 5 provided the opportunity for the Year 5 pupils to take their parents through their books and learning over the past months. Secondly, the Senior School transition meeting for parents of children in Year 6 saw Mr Johnson, Mrs Thurlow and Mrs Fiol (Head of Truro School, Head of Junior School and Head of Learning Support respectively), alongside some former Prep pupils, delivering information on what can be expected as our Year 6 prepare for, and engage with, the step into the Senior School in September.

The overriding theme throughout all of these events has been that of ‘choice’ and we have, once again, reminded the children of the fact that they ‘are free to make a choice, but not from the consequences of that choice’. World AIMS Day, the VE Day commemoration and the step onto the Senior School are diverse topics indeed, but each provided the opportunity to reiterate the importance of making positive choices – for oneself, for our environment and for those around us. This is summed up neatly in the Quote of the Week:

Choice is the most powerful tool we have. Everything boils down to choice. We exist in a field of infinite possibilities. Every choice we make shuts an infinite number of doors and opens an infinite number of doors. At any point we can change the direction of our lives by a simple choice. It is all in our hands, our hearts, and our minds.

Finally, I take this opportunity to thank the Friends of Truro School and everyone who contributed to the ‘Teacher Appreciation Week’. Your generosity, kindness and support are very much appreciated by us all.

I wish you all a very happy and enjoyable weekend, and look forward to seeing you and your children next week.

With every good wish,

Rob Morse

Head of Prep

Truro School Family Day at the Senior School

The Senior School are delighted to announce their new Truro School Family Day on Saturday, 28 June 2025.

Building on the success of past events, they’re planning a vibrant programme full of activities, performances, workshops, and fun for all ages.

All Senior and Prep families, alumni, the wider community and all friends of the school are warmly invited to join in the festivities.

They are also looking for volunteers to help bring the day to life – whether by hosting a craft stall, running a creative workshop, or leading a sporting, artistic or social activity. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase your talents or business to the school and wider community.

If you would like to get involved, please email [email protected].

They would love to hear your ideas and look forward to celebrating with you!

Grandparents' Cream Tea Afternoon

A polite reminder that the deadline to sign up for the Grandparents’ Cream Tea Afternoon is Sunday 11 May 2025 using this link.

The Grandparents’ Cream Tea Afternoon takes place on Friday 23 May, from 1.45pm to 3pm here at Truro School Prep.

The event will be open to grandparents of pupils in Years 3-6 and is a chance for our pupils to share their school and learning with their wider family members.

Please would you help us by sharing the attached invitation with your child’s grandparents and reply, on their behalf, by Sunday 11th May 2025 using this link.

We understand that not every child will have a grandparent in attendance, and we will ensure that this is treated with sensitivity. We will arrange a separate programme and ‘treat’ for all children who are not directly involved in the afternoon.

Once the deadline has passed, we will send further information to those who have signed up to join us on the 23rd May.

Many thanks for your support in helping us to host this event.
