TECgirls Build Eco Home

A group of Year 4 and 5 pupils at Truro School Prep are taking part in a Cornwall-wide tech masterclass, led by the Cornish CIC TECgirls.

As a part of our focus on STEAM subjects, Alicia, Freya, Erin, Greta, Malhar, Emily, Fjola, Endolyn, and Saffron started their 10-week after-school club, ‘Eco Homes are Awesome’, and are learning how to code items within the home using micro:bits. The pupils are working with Mrs Knight and a range of mentors and volunteers through the scheme, which is being delivered via Microsoft Teams, alongside the other 13 schools taking part.

The girls are learning to use micro:bits to code heat sensors, light sensors and water monitors, and to test a home’s air quality.

On 1st July, the group will be heading to the Eco Park at Porthtowan, where they will receive a flatpack dolls house to programme and decorate themselves during the last week of term. We look forward to sharing photos of their finished eco homes at the end of the course.
