Dear Parents & Carers,

A very warm welcome to the first edition of the Truro School Prep Bulletin for the academic year 2026/27.

As I wrote yesterday, it has been an absolute pleasure to welcome your children back to school and, despite the downpours, they have been full of positivity and cheerfulness at the start of this new academic year.

The term for the staff started somewhat earlier than for the children, and we completed our preparations with a full programme of Inset. This included sessions on this year’s action plan, medical updates, safeguarding and SEND. Important as these development sessions are, nothing compares to a full and bustling school, and the staff, as well as the children, have very much enjoyed these first few days of term.

With regard to our start of term messages, our focus in assemblies and form tutor time has been on making the most of our opportunities (and developing our own targets and plans for the year), of service to others and the importance of teamwork (with particular focus upon the House system). These themes and related topics will be delivered in an age-appropriate fashion throughout the school this term, and I will endeavour to keep you in the loop with our messaging and progress.

Friends of Truro School
It was a pleasure to see many of you at the Friends of Truro School (FTS) coffee morning today. Continuing on the FTS theme, please do not forget the FTS Barbecue and Picnic next Friday (11th September). Please note that there is a tight deadline for ordering barbecue food (4pm on Monday, 7th) as the catering team will need to make their order first thing on Tuesday morning.

Next week
I hope that you all have a super weekend with your lovely children. I am sure that Monday morning may pose something of a challenge in terms of waking up and getting back into routine (perhaps for both parents and children?), but please remind your children that they have made an excellent start to the term and we are very much looking forward to seeing them.

A quick reminder regarding morning drop-off: Monday sees us return to normal drop-off routine and the field will not be available for parking. If you need to park, please do so in the spaces adjacent to the flagpole (opposite Treliske House) or on the spaces on the roundabout itself (not next to the swimming pool or the playing field) so that the ‘drop-off loop’ is kept clear.

Finally, I hope you will excuse me for sharing my current favourite joke with you (as I did with the Prep School children on the first morning of term):
I remember thinking, as I taped a piranha fish to my boomerang, ‘This could come back to bite me’.
