A Summer of Activity at Truro School

It has been an immensely busy summer on site at Truro School. The SBA Activity Camps delivered over 1000 sessions with a packed schedule of sporting, art, cookery and outdoor activities. Truro School pupils were joined by children from across the county, with all areas of the Senior and Prep Schools being put to great use throughout the summer.

A Summer of Cookery

In our kitchens, creativity was in full swing as mixing, kneading and sizzling filled the room with laughter and the delicious smell of freshly prepared food.

A fantastic group of budding bakers joined Chef Ben Arthur for a fun-filled Pasta & Bread Making course, while enthusiastic young chefs joined Jane Hutton for a series of classes focusing on baking, meals, brunch and snacks. Some children attended multiple classes, expanding their repertoire of culinary skills while taking home delicious creations to share with their families.

Sport and Lifesaving

In the Sports Centre, a group of aspiring young lifeguards joined tutor Steff to complete their Rookie Lifeguard qualification. They dedicated themselves to a full week of activities in the water, developing their swimming skills and learning important lifesaving techniques.

Our younger campers also burned off plenty of energy on our multi-sports camps. With days packed full of activities, sporting matches and plenty of fun, they returned home tired but happy after an action-packed day.

Just before the summer, work was completed on resurfacing the school’s astro pitch. Some of its first users were students attending Truro School coaches Shona and Gary’s Pre-Season Hockey Training. The new surface gave students the opportunity to develop their skills, learn new gameplay techniques and make the most of the fantastic new pitch.

Fencing on an International Stage

For one week, we welcomed children from across the world for a residential fencing camp. Young fencers travelled from as far afield as Hong Kong, Germany, Turkey and Switzerland to train with elite coaches in the Sports Centre and fencing salle.

The intensive five-day course was open to epee, foil and sabre fencers of all ages and abilities, excluding absolute beginners. For more experienced fencers, a separate three-day programme was offered in epee and sabre.

Creativity in the Art Studios

Budding artists headed into the Senior Art Studios to experience working in a professional environment, taking part in professionally led workshops with Truro School teaching staff Gizella and Rachael.

Attendees explored Gelli printing, monoprinting, nature sketching and clay impressions, collecting natural materials outdoors and filling their sketchbooks with colourful prints and artwork.

Younger children joined us in the library for some epic days of arts and crafts. One of the highlights of the summer was creating their own aquariums using paints, glitter, pens and plenty of imagination. The group explored a wide range of creative activities, alongside books, jigsaws, LEGO, and group and individual activities.

All of the children embraced their creativity, built confidence and, most importantly, had lots of fun along the way.

A Busy Summer Beyond the Camps

In addition to our holiday clubs, we have welcomed residential groups, hosted a fantastic programme of drama performances and made the most of the fantastic new space at The Ode.

The Ode was brought to life with performances of Cats by Boom Theatre, as well as welcoming Miracle Theatre as part of their tour of Peer Gynt, among other productions and performances throughout the summer. It has been fantastic to see the new space being used by visiting performers and groups, bringing a diverse programme of theatre and entertainment to the school.

As the Autumn Term approaches, the team at Truro School Enterprises is excited to partner with Truro Food Festival for a range of exciting cookery courses in our dedicated cookery school. We will also be launching our Activity Camps for the October school holiday.
