Former Prep Boarder Returns After Nearly 50 Years

Truro School Prep was delighted to welcome back Old Truronian Martin Lloyd, who recently revisited the school for the first time in 48 years since leaving in 1978.

Martin attended the Prep School as a boarder between 1974 and 1978 before his family relocated to Dorset, where he completed the remainder of his education. Having not returned to the school since, the visit provided an opportunity to revisit many cherished memories from his time at Prep.

During a tour of the school, Martin commented how much of Treliske House remains unchanged. He was able to see his former dormitories, which have since been repurposed as staff rooms and the library, and recalled many happy memories of life as a boarder.

Among his fondest recollections were those of the school field and the hours spent with friends collecting golf balls that had strayed onto the grounds from the neighbouring golf club.

Martin was taught by Mrs Goddard, Mr Hunt, Mr Goddard and Mr Tremayne.

Reflecting on his visit, Martin said:

“I found it fascinating that although, of course, in so many ways it is a very different school, the essence of the place somehow remains the same. My parents told me, when they were initially shown around, they came away feeling that it had a friendly, welcoming and positive atmosphere. Fifty or so years later, as we left this morning, my wife said exactly the same thing.”

Truro School warmly welcomes visits from Old Truronians from both the Prep and Senior School. To arrange a visit, please contact the Development & Alumni Relations team.
