Prep Pupils’ Athletics Championship Success

After Sports Day on Friday, eight of our athletes took to the track and field once again as staff and pupils from Truro School Prep made their way across the border to compete in the Mount Kelly Trophy.

This is the first time that the Prep School has attended the meet in several years, and our athletes put on a show! Against schools such as Exeter, Kingsley, West Buckland, St Peter’s, Stover, Plymouth College, Exeter Cathedral and our hosts, Mount Kelly, we ran, jumped and threw with grit, determination and an abundance of skill and success.

From the first event right through until the last, Truro Prep featured on the podium on a multitude of occasions. And the best of all was the fact that we were champions of the best supporters there too, even though we had the smallest team in terms of numbers. The results were as follows:

75m – James V (3rd place), Mabel L (finalist)

150m – Evie C (2nd place); Hugo V (finalist)

600m – Jack L (1st place); Heidi D (finalist)

1200m – Sienna S (2nd place); Rafe G (2nd place)

Long Jump – Jack L (2nd place); Heidi D (finalist)

High Jump – Hugo V (2nd place); Sienna S (finalist)

Javelin – Mabel L (2nd place)

4 x 100m Relay – Sienna S, Heidi D, Mabel L, Evie C (2nd place); Rafe G, Hugo V, James V, Jack L (4th place)

A massive congratulations to everyone who participated, and thanks to Mr Ward, Mrs Egford and Miss Harris who prepared the athletes and made the event run smoothly. Thanks also to Kirsty Davis for providing photos from the event.

As a result of the above results, confirmation has also been communicated that the following children have been selected to represent the Drake Team at the National Prep Schools’ Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, on Wednesday, 1^st July.

This is a huge achievement and one that the children should feel very proud of. Well done to:
