Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
As we approach the weekend, I have been reflecting on the many different ways in which learning takes place across our school community.
Over the past two days, our Year 7 pupils have been participating in team-building activities, developing confidence, resilience and friendships as they continue to settle into Senior School life. At the same time, our Year 11 geographers have been undertaking fieldwork, applying their classroom learning in real-world contexts and honing the practical skills that are such an important part of geographical enquiry.
Around the school, it has also been wonderful to see the positive and purposeful atmosphere developing within the Sixth Form. Throughout the day, groups of students can be found working collaboratively, discussing ideas and supporting one another with their studies. Academic success is seldom achieved in isolation, and it is encouraging to see our young people embracing the value of learning together. It was equally pleasing to see so many Sixth Form students enjoying their first social event of the year last night, combining a quiz with a curry and an opportunity to strengthen friendships across the year groups.
Elsewhere, preparations for our forthcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar continue apace. The commitment, talent and enthusiasm on display during rehearsals have been hugely impressive. If you have not yet booked your tickets, I would strongly encourage you to do so.
Much of my own time recently has been spent meeting with Heads of Department as part of our annual review of public examination outcomes across the school. These discussions encompass the full range of qualifications studied by our pupils, including GCSEs, A Levels, EPQs and specialist Level 3 qualifications. While we are rightly proud of our pupils’ achievements, reflection is a crucial part of the improvement process. Through detailed analysis of outcomes, question-level performance and the experiences of different pupil groups, we seek to understand not only what worked well, but what can be improved further.
This process sits within a robust cycle of monitoring and evaluation overseen by the Academic Leadership Team. The ultimate purpose is not simply to review results, but to ensure that the lessons we learn have a positive impact on the pupils currently sitting in our classrooms. By identifying effective practice, refining curriculum delivery and sharing expertise between departments, we continue to strengthen the educational experience we provide.
Looking further ahead, we are also beginning a broader review of our curriculum provision. Over the coming year, we will be seeking views from pupils, parents and staff as part of this process. While we will naturally pay close attention to developments in national education policy and emerging government thinking, our independence remains one of our greatest strengths. It allows us to preserve what makes a Truro School education distinctive: a curriculum that combines academic rigour with innovation, opportunity and a rich programme of experiences beyond the traditional classroom subjects.

Open Morning – Saturday 3 October
Thank you to everyone who has already completed the form and confirmed that their child will be supporting our Whole School Open Morning on Saturday 3 October. We are very grateful for their support.
If you have not yet completed the form, please could you do so as soon as possible so that we can finalise arrangements for the morning. As a reminder, Years 7 and 8 pupils are expected to take part, while participation for Years 9–11 is voluntary but greatly appreciated.

Jesus Christ Superstar: 18 – 21 November
We are also thrilled to present our senior school production of Jesus Christ Superstar this November. This iconic rock opera features some of the most recognisable musical theatre songs ever written and will showcase the remarkable talents of our cast, orchestra and backstage team.
Whether you are a long-time fan of the show or experiencing it for the first time, this promises to be a spectacular production.

Parking Safety
As we settle into the new school year, we would like to remind everyone of safety around drop off, parking and Trennick Lane.
Please do not drop off or wait in Epworth Court. We are keen to support our local community and be good neighbours, so please use the Sir Ben Ainslie car park to drop off and collect pupils, rather than stopping or waiting in Epworth Court.
Please do not park, wait or drop off on the yellow hatched areas or double yellow lines in the Sir Ben Ainslie car park.
These areas are deliberately hatched to:
-Maintain visibility for vehicles travelling through the car park
-Provide a safer route for pupils walking through the car park
-Allow drivers pulling out of parking bays to see approaching vehicles, pedestrians and pupils
If you need to drop off, please turn right as you enter the car park and use the red areas indicated on the map (link below).
When in the car park, please follow the white arrows to support safe use of the car park. You may be asked to move your vehicle by a member of staff.
Please also avoid dropping off outside The Burrell and The Ode. This is a particularly busy area for pupils and vehicles, and stopping here increases congestion and the risk of restricted visibility.
