09.05.2025 Senior Bulletin

Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

It has been a significant week in school as our 5th Year and Upper Sixth pupils have either officially begun their public examinations or are about to do so. We are incredibly proud of the calm, focused manner in which they have approached this important period, and we wish them every success in the weeks ahead.

Looking ahead to the weekend, we send our very best wishes to all those taking part in the Ten Tors Challenge. This is a demanding and rewarding experience, and we look forward to hearing about their achievements upon their return.

More poignantly, in Chapel this week we have been reflecting on the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Yesterday, staff and pupils gathered for a time of reflection led by Reverend Helen at 3pm; the precise moment when, in 1945, Winston Churchill addressed the nation to declare the end of the war in Europe. In his broadcast, he famously said, “Long live the cause of freedom.” It was a moving opportunity to consider the lasting importance of peace, sacrifice, and resilience.

As part of this commemoration, excerpts from the Truronian School Magazine published in May 1945 were read aloud, offering a powerful glimpse into how our school community experienced that historic moment. I share one such excerpt below:

“As this issue goes to press, the glad news of the European Victory is published. The long night is ended, and we greet the dawn of a new day with great thankfulness. We read with pride the long list of Old Boys who have served in the forces. Some have gained high distinction, and they are the first to point out that many acts of courage and heroism pass unseen and receive no recognition. The glamour of war had long since departed, and probably most of those who have served have done so feeling they were doing a hateful but necessary thing. We honour them all.”

Reverend Helen closed the reflection with these words: “May we never forget, always be thankful and continue to treasure our freedoms for others and seek peace in our lives and in the world. Do that, and we do honour to those who have now gone on to glory.”

Wishing you all a restful weekend.

Truro School Family Day

We’re delighted to announce our new Truro School Family Day – Celebrating the Year of Creativity on Saturday 28 June 2025.

Building on the success of past events, we’re planning a vibrant programme full of activities, performances, workshops, and fun for all ages. We warmly invite Senior and Prep families, alumni, the wider community and all friends of the school to join us for the festivities.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help bring the day to life – whether by hosting a craft stall, running a creative workshop, or leading a sporting, artistic or social activity. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase your talents or business to the school and wider community.

If you would like to get involved, please email [email protected].

We would love to hear your ideas and look forward to celebrating with you!

Bringing Cakes Into School

As a school, we love cakes and welcome support of charitable causes, including cake sales. However, we are also mindful that for some members of our community, certain ingredients can pose serious health risks.

To ensure everyone can enjoy these events safely, we ask that any cakes or baked goods brought into school – whatever the occasion – follow the guidelines set out in our risk assessment. Below are the five key steps to follow. If you would like to see the full risk assessment, please email our Operations Director at [email protected].

It cannot be home-made.

It must be in its original packaging, which must show the ingredient listing.

It must not contain nuts.

Before opening the packaging, a teacher or member of staff must check if any pupils in the form/class have food allergies or intolerances.

Food must not be shared outside the form/class.

Thank you.

Summer Uniform

Our Summer Uniform is now in place, therefore:

Pupils and Sixth Form students may come to school without a blazer or jacket. If they do still wear it to School, they are not required to wear their jacket/blazer around the school.

Pupils and Sixth Form students must follow all other uniform regulations as normal, and must be smart and professional at all times, including ties for boys and shirts tucked in.

Thank you for your cooperation.
