Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
Beginning on a poignant note, on Monday of this week some of our Sixth Form students were invited to take part in the Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) Ceremony of Light, held each year in Truro Cathedral. Supported by Mr Berger, our English students had reviewed and selected poems reflecting the HMD theme this year of ‘for a better future.’ Within the service they read two of the poems and shared a most moving reflection about their meaning for the HMD theme today. Our musicians played beautiful music for the service, including a special piece by a Jewish composer during the lighting of the candles. Representatives from faith and civic leaders across the county shared in the service, which concluded with some closing words and blessing by our School Chaplain, Rev Helen.
Over the weekend, our boarding houses celebrated Lunar New Year with a special in-house meal. We’re now looking forward to another festive gathering this coming weekend, where boarders will come together to enjoy delicious food and share in the traditions of this vibrant celebration.
In academics, our 5th Years engaged in valuable discussions with department leads during the Sixth Form Subject Consultation Evening on Monday as they finalise their A-Level and Level 3 course choices. It was also wonderful to welcome so many prospective Sixth Form students from across the county and beyond, whose talents and diversity will further enrich our Sixth Form community in the autumn.

Over the past few weeks, pupils and teachers have been reflecting on the first term’s progress, particularly our 5th Year, Lower Sixth, and Upper Sixth students, who have completed trial exams. Our robust tracking system ensures that every pupil and student is closely supported both academically and pastorally, with multiple staff members monitoring progress and wellbeing. This collaborative approach plays a key role in achieving our excellent public examination results (and associated excellent progress measures) while importantly maintaining pupil and student welfare.
Finally, on the sporting front, it has been another exceptional week. A historic moment saw our U15 girls reach the ISFA National Cup quarter-finals for the first time, putting in a commendable performance despite a 2-0 defeat. Meanwhile, the U14 boys secured a place in the ESFA National Cup semi-finals with an outstanding win, and our U14 boys’ rugby team became county champions, advancing to regionals. As we speak, our U18 girls are en-route to the regional netball finals – we wish them the best of luck!
Wishing everyone a fantastic week ahead.

Portrait Exchange - An Invitation
We are delighted to invite you to the private view of our Portrait Exchange Exhibition.
A number of our current 4th and 1st Years participated in this collaborative painting project last academic year, whilst they were in the 3rd Year and Year 6 at the Prep. We are excited to be celebrating their creative works by showcasing them at this special event.
Please join us on Monday 3 February, from 6pm to 6.45pm to enjoy the exhibition, explore the portraits, and meet the artists involved in the exchange between the Prep and Senior School. There’s no need to sign up or book! We look forward to seeing you there.
New Pedestrian Routes in School
Due to the increased amount of work and the number of large vehicles around the building site, we will be restricting pedestrian access on Trennick Lane.
Starting from Monday there will be no walking on Trennick Lane between the 5th Year Common Room and the top of the rugby changing rooms in both directions.
The only exception will be during a fire alarm activation.
We appreciate your help and cooperation with this.
After School Safety
We would like to ask parents and carers to be mindful of the impact of our school traffic on local residents.
Residents from Epworth Close, the first left-hand turning on Trennick Lane, have emailed us to ask that Truro School families kindly do not use Epworth Close as a collection point for afternoon pick-up.
Residents have expressed concern that this is posing a danger to pedestrians and other drivers as parking on one side of the street creates a one-way flow of traffic for those entering and leaving the estate.
As a school, we always strive to minimise any negative impact we might have on our local community and thank you for your support and understanding in this matter.
