Inspirational teaching is provided at a subject and a co-curricular level, and the educational programmes go well beyond the confines of the classroom and the hours of the school day.
We award academic scholarships on entry to the school and after GCSE results. Specialist awards are given for Sport, Art and Music scholarships. We respond to the needs of the academically able and gifted by setting in some subjects, by providing stretching activities in lessons, and by entering pupils for national competitions. There are many opportunities for debating and public speaking and we also have a very successful cycle of Burrell Society talks where guest speakers provide stimulating and topical lectures.
Academic study and creative work are further developed in the Sixth Form with our Extension Studies programme. The most challenging aspect of this is the Extended Project Qualification which fosters creativity and independence, providing a path towards undergraduate level study. We host an Oxbridge Forum and those aspiring to be medics, dentists and vets benefit from annual mock interviews involving local doctors.
There is a wide range of orchestras, choirs and musical ensembles and Art and Design clubs that help talented pupils to flourish. School plays and musicals also feature prominently throughout the school year. Pupils’ experiences of art and theatre are enhanced by our artists in residence and our resident professional theatre company, cube theatre.
The development of leadership potential is addressed through a number of activities, which include our tutorial and prefect system and PSHEE programme, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and overseas expeditions. For those in the Sixth Form, we also provide the Community Sports Leadership Award.
Our school motto, Esse Quam Videri (to be, rather than to seem to be), captures the essence of our identity and is defined by the 5 C's below. Underpinned by strong Christian principles, we are a caring and inclusive community which values, nurtures and develops each individual.

To be and to become learners for life, to enjoy the discovery and development of knowledge, understanding, skills and interests, and to critically examine the world around us.
Because we believe that academic excellence is an important part of human excellence. Every child is an individual and we celebrate and develop their uniqueness, helping them to become an independent learner and encouraging each child to explore, understand and cultivate their talent and abilities, whatever they may be.
To be aware of and to champion the needs of others, with charitable hearts, as part of a commitment to benefit the Cornish community, and the world beyond.
Because our mission challenges us to be a vibrant community which enables people to live their lives to the full and transform society for the better. Located in the heart of Cornwall, our distinctive, serene location supports the development of balanced, unpretentious and reflective children who understand their role as global citizens.
To be people who relish intellectual and wider challenge, and to build resilience by learning from both success and failure alike, on our educational journeys.
Because we want every pupil to be comfortable in their own skin, celebrating the uniqueness of each individual in the school community. Through drama, presenting and public speaking opportunities, as well as appearing in productions and concerts, pupils learn key communication skills and gain the confidence to prosper in the real world.
To be people who relish the search for new ideas and approaches that positively and sustainably shape our lives, the lives of others, and our environment.
Because we value the development of pupils’ imaginative and creative dimensions as well as their characters. Through a broad curriculum and wide range of co-curricular activities, pupils discover the important balance between creative and logical thinking. These opportunities are fundamental to ensuring your son or daughter discovers their hidden gifts, developing a sense of individuality and a confidence in their own abilities.
To be and to become the very best of who we are, by bravely examining and discovering the personal beliefs and faiths that will guide us through our lives.
Because we believe that essential life skills are often best taught outside of the classroom, balancing an academic education. Through a wide-ranging co-curricular programme, we offer every child the chance to participate, perform and lead in the fields of their choice. In a competitive world these opportunities are fundamental to ensuring your son or daughter develops essential life skills and an ambition for life.
