Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
I hope that you and your families were able to enjoy a restful half term break, particularly with the welcome sunshine, and that pupils have returned refreshed for the final half of the summer term. This week has been one defined by focus, commitment and the steady rhythm of learning across the school.
For many pupils, this remains an important examination period. What stands out is not simply final performance, but the habits behind it: managing time, revising effectively and approaching challenge with resilience. These are skills that extend well beyond examinations, and we continue to encourage pupils to reflect not just on what they learn, but how they learn best.
Our Year 10 Parents’ Evening this week provided a valuable opportunity to share progress and next steps, reinforcing the importance of a strong partnership between school and home.
Across the School, there has been a consistent focus on reflection and feedback. Through lesson feedback, mentoring conversations and Year 12 grade review points, pupils are being supported to engage actively with feedback and use it to shape their improvement over time.
It has been particularly pleasing to see the consistency of pupils’ engagement in lessons this week. Classrooms have been calm, purposeful and focused, with pupils responding positively to challenge.
In assembly this week, as part of Pride Month, pupils were encouraged to reflect on respect, inclusion and understanding, and how these values shape both our community and our classrooms. When pupils feel that they belong, they are more willing to contribute, take risks and engage fully in their learning.
Learning has also extended beyond the classroom. Year 7 pupils undertook a Geography and Biology field trip to Newquay, while Year 12 Physics pupils visited the Diamond Light Source in Didcot, a world-class synchrotron facility, where they saw first-hand how scientific theory is applied in cutting-edge research. The opportunity to meet scientists and experience such advanced technology helped deepen their understanding and brought their classroom learning to life, with pupils particularly struck by the scale and precision of the facility in action.
Year 8 pupils are also looking ahead to their Brittany trip and Outdoor Education residential this weekend, developing independence, resilience and teamwork.
Looking ahead, we are excited to be approaching two key moments in the school calendar. Community Day on Saturday 20 June promises to be a vibrant occasion, bringing together pupils, families and the wider school community, while Speech Day on Friday 3 July will celebrate the many achievements of our pupils over the past year. Further details can be found in the Parent Guide for Speech Day in the notices section below.
Before that, however, we head off to the Royal Cornwall Show, and I hope that any families and friends at the showground will visit the Truro School stand (416). Andy Johnson and the Truro School team will be hosting a drinks reception between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday 6th June. We hope to see many of you there.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support,
Miss Lucy Coleridge
Assistant Head (Learning and Teaching)
