19.06.2026 Senior Bulletin

Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

It has been a week defined by learning beyond the classroom, as pupils across the school have embraced a range of experiences designed to inspire and develop their independence.

This has included our Year 7 pupils away on camp, building friendships and confidence in equal measure. Alongside this, fieldwork has taken centre stage, with both Year 10 geology students and our Year 12 biologists benefiting from hands-on enquiry in the field. It was a pleasure to join the Year 12 biologists at Penhale Dunes, where pupils were investigating the distribution of species in relation to biotic and abiotic factors. Experiences such as these bring subject content vividly to life, while also developing the collaboration and analytical thinking that are so central to a well-rounded education.

Careers education has also been a key focus this week. Our Year 10 pupils took part in their Careers Day, including Morrisby profiling to explore potential pathways and valuable input from a range of teachers and visiting professionals, offering insight into the breadth of opportunities available to them. Meanwhile, our Year 12 students participated in a Post-18 Options Day on Tuesday, exploring in greater depth the pathways open to them, including university courses, apprenticeships and other higher training. We were particularly grateful to welcome back Old Truronians, whose perspectives and experiences added real authenticity to the discussions, especially in understanding both the application process and life beyond school.

Back in school, we draw to the close of this year’s public examination series. I would like to extend a sincere congratulations to all of our Year 11 and Year 13 students, who have navigated this demanding period with maturity, determination and good spirit. They have conducted themselves exceptionally well throughout, and we are proud of the commitment they have shown.

This theme of resilience has also been evident in our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award cohorts. Following last weekend’s Bronze expedition, our Silver participants set off today, demonstrating impressive perseverance and teamwork. These experiences, often testing both physically and mentally, play a vital role in developing independence, leadership and self-belief.

Looking ahead, we very much look forward to Saturday’s Community Day, which will bring together pupils, staff, families, alumni and the wider community. Everyone is welcome.

Sports Day on Tuesday comes with the prospect of warm and sunny weather. Pupils are encouraged to come prepared with water bottles and appropriate sun protection, including hats and sunscreen, so that they can enjoy the day safely.

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to our term dates, which are now available on the school website. In addition to the forthcoming academic year, we have also published dates for 2027–2028 to support your longer-term planning.

Wishing you all an enjoyable and restful weekend.

Dr Shaun Pope

Deputy Head (Academic)

High Temperatures Next Week

Dear all,

We are expecting high temperatures on Monday and Tuesday following an amber heat alert from the Met Office for the South West. We are taking additional steps to ensure pupils remain safe, comfortable and cared for.

What we are doing in school

-Increasing ventilation in classrooms where possible.
-Encouraging regular hydration throughout the day.
-Adapting lessons and activities to reduce heat exposure.
-Adjusting physical activity where necessary.

Where sporting fixtures or outdoor activities take place, staff will adjust or adapt sessions if required to ensure safety. Pupil wellbeing remains our priority, and we will continue to monitor conditions closely over the coming days.

Thank you for your support.
