Our Year 7 pupils recently returned from an unforgettable three-day, two-night residential trip to Skern Adventure Abbotsham, marking a fitting and joyful conclusion to their first year at Truro School.
Set in a beautiful location, the residential offered a rich programme of activities designed to challenge and inspire. Pupils embraced a wide range of experiences, including high ropes, paddle sports, an assault course, buggy building & orienteering, archery & mountain boarding and team-building games. Stepping out of their comfort zones, they developed new skills, built confidence and discovered new strengths.
Pupils also benefited from our own staff leading bespoke activities, such as a yoga workshop with Mr Heights, mindfulness with Rev Helen, and drama games with Mrs Vaughan, whilst the majority of the year group competed in a rounders match with Miss Lynn-Davies.
Throughout the trip, there was a strong emphasis on teamwork, resilience and personal growth. Whether tackling physical challenges, navigating group tasks or supporting one another through new experiences, the pupils demonstrated remarkable determination and positivity. It was the perfect environment for friendships to flourish, with existing bonds strengthened and many new connections formed along the way.
Equally important was the opportunity for pupils to develop their independence. Away from the familiar routines of home and school, they rose to the occasion with maturity and enthusiasm, taking responsibility for themselves and contributing to the group’s shared success.
The residential was a chance to reflect on how far they have come this year, and to look ahead with confidence to the next stage of their journey at Truro School.
A huge thank you goes to the dedicated team of Truro School staff whose support, encouragement and careful planning ensured that the trip was both safe and inspiring. Thanks also to the team at Skern Adventure. This residential will no doubt remain a highlight of the pupils’ school memories and has been a fantastic way to round off Year 7 for this exceptional cohort.
