Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
It has been lovely to welcome everyone back to school and to see our pupils and students settling into the new academic year. The start of a new year always brings a mixture of excitement and adjustment, and we are really proud of the positive way they have embraced the term so far.
We hope our New Parent Meetings and our Meet and Greet evenings have been a useful opportunity to meet your child’s Form Tutor and start getting to know the people who will be supporting them throughout the year. We look forward to welcoming our Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 parents to their evenings over the coming weeks.
Your child’s Form Tutor is always the first port of call for pastoral matters. They know your child well and are often best placed to help with day-to-day concerns or questions. Behind them is a wider pastoral team, including Heads of Year, Heads of Section and our pastoral and wellbeing teams, who are there to provide further support when needed.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Lloyd. Mrs Lloyd joins us with a wealth of experience in pastoral care and safeguarding, and we are very much looking forward to working with her. We really value the relationship between home and school, so please do get in touch with your child’s Tutor if something is worrying you. And, of course, we are always delighted to hear when things are going well too.

Changes to Our Positive Behaviour and Rewards Policy
We are incredibly proud of our pupils and the positive contribution they make to our school community. Each year, we review our approach to behaviour to ensure it continues to reflect our values, responds to updates in statutory guidance, and supports young people effectively. This year, we have made a small number of updates designed to strengthen our focus on consistency, fairness and early intervention. Staff were briefed of these changes in inset last week and are supportive of them.
Our approach remains centred on recognising and celebrating the many achievements and acts of kindness that take place across the school every day. Alongside this, there is a focus on helping pupils learn from mistakes, reflect on their choices, repair relationships and make positive decisions.
The key changes are:
-Level 1 informal conversations will no longer be recorded. These conversations have always been designed to be informal and relational in shaping choices and behaviour. They remain an important way of addressing minor concerns early but removing them from the formal record will help ensure a fair and consistent view of a pupil’s overall conduct in those records.
-Level 2 and Level 3 consequences will now be recorded as either ‘In Lesson’ or ‘Out of Lesson’. This will help provide greater clarity for parents about where incidents occur and their impact on learning, and will support more targeted staff intervention in follow up.
-The fixed tariff for escalating consequences from Level 3 to Level 4 has been removed. This will enable staff to consider the wider context of a pupil’s behaviour and wellbeing as part of any decisions over escalation, or not, helping us to identify concerns earlier and put support and intervention in place at the best time for the child concerned.
These changes support our commitment to ensuring that behaviour is managed in a way that is fair, consistent and focused on helping every pupil thrive.
Pupil Drop-Off and Collection – Please Be Mindful
Welcome back to the new term.
As pupils return to school, please could we ask everyone to be mindful when dropping off and collecting pupils in and around Truro.
To help maintain good relationships with our local residents and businesses, please:
-Do not use private car parks when dropping off or collecting pupils.
-Please do not block driveways, entrances or access points.
-Do not use local business car parks unless you are visiting that business.
We appreciate that drop-off and collection times can be busy, but your consideration helps minimise disruption to our local community.

Jesus Christ Superstar – Tickets Coming Soon
Exciting news… tickets for our upcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar will be going on sale very soon!
We are just putting the finishing touches to our ticketing system and will let you know as soon as tickets are available to book.
Co-Curricular Activities
We are delighted to launch our programme of co-curricular clubs and activities for the Autumn Term and encourage all pupils to make the most of the many opportunities available.

Clubs and activities take place before school, at break time, lunchtime and after school, and will begin in full from Monday 7 September.
FTS Coffee Mornings
A very warm welcome to all our new and returning families. We’re delighted to be starting the new school year with you and would love to see you at one of our FTS Coffee Mornings.
It’s a lovely opportunity to meet other parents, enjoy a coffee and chat with members of the FTS community.
