Marking International Day of Peace

This week, our World Peace Committee has been leading Chapel services across the school to mark the United Nations International Day of Peace, exploring this year’s theme: “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.”

Through the services, pupils reflected on conflicts around the world and the ways ordinary people have worked for peace, from the women of the Greenham Common Peace Camp to St Francis of Assisi, who encouraged people to listen, speak kindly and respectfully, and seek peaceful ways forward. The Committee also challenged us to consider what being a peacemaker can look like in our own lives: listening without immediately dismissing others, challenging ideas without attacking people, and recognising that those with different views still deserve our respect.

The Methodist Peace Fellowship banners are also currently on display in Chapel, sharing stories of peacemakers within Methodism and reminding us of our own tradition of peace-building: “Peacemaking is in our Methodist DNA.”
