16.10.2026 Senior Bulletin

Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

As we approach the end of my first half term here, I look back and see a very busy and rewarding introduction to life at Truro School. Over the last 13 years in pastoral roles, I have learnt that a school is only ever as strong as its community, and that strength has been evident at Truro School from my very first day; the warmth, kindness and sense of belonging shown by both staff and pupils have been remarkable, and I have felt incredibly welcome. A community is closely linked to a strong sense of safety and wellbeing, and as Assistant Head (Pastoral) and Designated Safeguarding Lead this is hugely important to me. I have been impressed by the care, commitment and expertise of the pastoral team and know that this breadth of support ensures we have happy, and therefore successful, pupils.

We are fortunate to have a wide range of pastoral provision available to our pupils here; our recently opened Garden Room by Trevail House, led by our Wellbeing Lead Mel, provides a welcoming and supportive space for those who need it. This week also saw our ACHE mentors begin their training programme, and I am looking forward to working with them next half term as they develop their skills as peer mentors and role models within our school.

One of the many strengths of Truro School is the emphasis placed on relationships. Our WAA programme creates valuable opportunities for pupils to build connections across year groups, spend time with staff who share their interests, and develop trusted relationships with them beyond the classroom. It has been a pleasure to see these groups in action, whether watching the surfers head off each week or enjoying the tasty results of the creativity emerging from the cookery room. I am proud that we have such an immensely beneficial programme available to our pupils.

While many of us are looking forward to a well-earned break, other members of our community have already set off on exciting school trips to Morocco, New York and London. I have no doubt they will return with unforgettable memories and experiences and can’t wait to hear about their adventures. Whatever your plans for the half-term holiday, I hope you have a safe, restful and enjoyable break. I look forward to continuing to get to know more of our community and all that the remainder of the Autumn Term has to offer.

With best wishes,

Mrs Taryn Lloyd

Assistant Head (Pastoral) and DSL

Be a Senior Chorister for a Day

Does your child love singing and is currently in Year 7 or 8? If so, we would like to invite them to join us for Be a Senior Chorister for a Day on Thursday 12 November and experience what life is like as a Senior Chorister with Truro Cathedral Choir.

During the day, pupils will take part in rehearsals, attend normal lessons, enjoy a tour of Truro Cathedral and rehearse with James Anderson-Besant, Director of Music.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to develop musical skills, meet other aspiring choristers and discover the unique rewards of singing as part of the Cathedral Choir.

The Senior Chorister programme is open to girls and boys aged 13–18, with entry from Year 9.

If you would like to take part, please register here:

Lost Property Reminder

Lost Property

Items left outside buildings are collected at the end of each day.

These items are placed in designated holding areas outside the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre and are available to check the following school day by pupils between 08:00 – 13:00. Pupils are encouraged to check for missing items as soon as possible.

At 13:00 each school day, any unclaimed items are transferred to the School’s Lost Property Container.

Once items have been moved to Lost Property Container:
– Named items: pupils will be notified and expected to collect promptly.
– Unnamed items: pupils may collect by providing a clear description.

The Lost Property Container is open for collection every school day between 13:15 – 14:30.

Items found on school transport are held by the Facilities Team for up to one week before transferred to Lost Property.

All unclaimed items are cleared at the end of each term.

High Value Items

High value items (such as mobiles, wallets, keys, earphones) are taken directly to Reception upon being found.

These items are not placed in holding areas or Lost Property Container.

Pupils who have lost a high value item should check with Front Office as soon as possible.

All high value items are stored securely.

Pupil Attendance

We aspire to high levels of attendance for all pupils, recognising the important contribution that regular attendance makes not only to academic progress and achievement, but also to pupils’ wellbeing, sense of belonging and wider life chances.

Pupils are expected to attend School every day that it is open, except in a small number of circumstances where absence is unavoidable, such as when a pupil is too unwell to attend.

If your child is unable to attend School, please email absence@ as soon as possible on each day of absence, and before the start of the School day at 8.45am. If your child is delayed on their journey to School, please also notify absence@ so that we are aware and can monitor their safe arrival.

Requests for planned absence during term time should only be made in exceptional circumstances and should be sent to absence@ in advance for consideration by the Deputy Head Pastoral, and in consultation with the Head.

Uniform Expectations

Our uniform is an important part of our shared identity at Truro School. Wearing it well helps create a sense of belonging, equality and pride in our community, as well as ensuring pupils arrive each day ready for school. We would be grateful for your support in ensuring your child comes to school each day wearing the correct uniform.

Our full uniform requirements can be found here.

As the warmer weather comes to an end, we share the following information to support conversations at home about appropriate uniform.  Pupils may wear a coat to school, but coats should not be worn in lessons, assemblies and Chapel or in the dining hall. A coat does not replace a blazer: pupils are expected to bring and wear their blazer each day, unless given permission by a member of staff to remove it. Hoodies and non-uniform jumpers are not permitted as alternatives to a coat or blazer.

We also ask pupils to arrive at the dining hall dressed in accordance with our uniform expectations. Where this is not the case, they will be asked to correct their uniform before joining the lunch queue, including retrieving their blazer if necessary. Staff may issue a uniform feedback where expectations are not met. Three uniform feedbacks within a five-day period will result in a lunchtime detention.

The great majority of our pupils wear their uniform correctly each day and arrive with the equipment they need. These small, everyday habits matter; they demonstrate readiness, personal responsibility and pride in belonging to our school community.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain these shared expectations.

Parking Safety

As we settle into the new school year, we would like to remind everyone of safety around drop off, parking and Trennick Lane.

Please do not drop off or wait in Epworth Court. We are keen to support our local community and be good neighbours, so please use the Sir Ben Ainslie car park to drop off and collect pupils, rather than stopping or waiting in Epworth Court.

Please do not park, wait or drop off on the yellow hatched areas or double yellow lines in the Sir Ben Ainslie car park.

These areas are deliberately hatched to:

-Maintain visibility for vehicles travelling through the car park
-Provide a safer route for pupils walking through the car park
-Allow drivers pulling out of parking bays to see approaching vehicles, pedestrians and pupils

If you need to drop off, please turn right as you enter the car park and use the red areas indicated on the map (link below).

When in the car park, please follow the white arrows to support safe use of the car park. You may be asked to move your vehicle by a member of staff.

Please also avoid dropping off outside The Burrell and The Ode. This is a particularly busy area for pupils and vehicles, and stopping here increases congestion and the risk of restricted visibility.

Thank you for helping us keep the school site safe, reduce congestion and be considerate to our neighbours.

Thank you for your continued support.
