Our new Sixth Form ACHE mentors have begun their training journey, developing the leadership, teamwork and communication skills that will help them make a positive difference to younger pupils across Truro School.
This afternoon, Year 12 students took part in a team-building and leadership session led by Mr Mark Aston. Through four different challenges, they were encouraged to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, solve problems and discover the qualities that enable good teamwork.
ACHE stands for Advice, Care, Help and Empathy. The 16-week programme is available to all Year 12 students as part of the Sixth Form Diploma and prepares them to become trusted peer mentors within the school community. Over the coming months, they will explore a range of topics, including active listening, healthy relationships, bullying and cyberbullying, mental health and wellbeing, and how to support others through challenges they may face.
Coordinated by our Chaplain, Rev Helen, and Health and Wellbeing Lead, Mel Corden Lloyd, with support from staff and guest speakers, the programme gives students the opportunity to develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Becoming an ACHE mentor is a rewarding commitment, requiring compassion, responsibility and a willingness to give time to others. It is also an important part of the wider Sixth Form experience at Truro School, where students are encouraged to develop not only academically, but also as confident, thoughtful and well-rounded young adults who can make a difference to those around them.
We look forward to following our new mentors’ progress as they continue their training and prepare to take on this valuable role within our school community.
