Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
As this bulletin is sent, I am at a conference, sharing how schools like ours support children from disadvantaged or care-leaving backgrounds. It is the kind of work that the Truro School Foundation, a charity separate from the School, but a part of our wider school community, was formed to support over a decade ago. You can find out more about the work of the Foundation here: The Truro School Foundation | Independent School, Cornwall, UK.
On Saturday, I will join our team at our stall at the Devon County Show, hoping to catch up with alumni and friends of our School on the other side of the Tamar. That is, of course, the warm-up for the main event – the Royal Cornwall Show at the end of the first week of June. Please do drop into our tent there, especially between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday, 6 June, when I will be there with the team, and we will formally be ‘open house’ for all current or past members of our School community.
Summer is a busy term. These events are reminders of the purpose and connectivity our School has, at a time when many pupils and families are rightly focused on the immediate demands of GCSEs and A Levels. Ongoing best wishes to all involved. As I stood at the back of the English Language GCSE yesterday, I was reminded, as we are annually, of the amount of work your children do and the amount of support and care for them that staff have, too.
That care and support come in many shapes, sizes, and forms. It happens at times very quietly by our pastoral teams, and at times very openly in sport, drama, or music. The second half of term will see Junior and Sixth Form plays, sports fixtures and Sports Days, and musical joy on our Community Day on 20 June, amongst other moments.
It also happens off-site to support truly formative personal achievements, too. One of my personal highlights of the term was to cheer over the line the pupils who completed the Ten Tors, the weekend after we had also welcomed ‘home’ those completing Silver Duke of Edinburgh.
The ambition of our pupils, their engagement and investment in their own personal journeys here, and the commitment shown by them, by staff, and by you who ferry and support them, is humbling and powerful. It is certainly, therefore, time for a brief pause.
I wish your children and you a fine half term, a chance I hope to relax and reset ahead of the exciting weeks ahead that will bring us to another set of annual celebrations.
Mr Andy Johnson

Old Truronians: 50 Years of Co-Education
We wish to warmly invite you to join us for a very special reunion as we celebrate 50 years of co-education at Truro School.
Truro School first welcomed girls to the Sixth Form in 1976 and has been fully co-educational since the early 1990s.
To mark this milestone, we are holding a special dinner on Saturday, 22 August at Truro School.
This is a rare opportunity to gather generations of OTs and the Truro School community together to celebrate not only our shared memories, but also the transformation of the School over the past fifty years.
We very much hope you will join us. Find out more here.
Reminder for Parents: The Wellbeing Hub
Truro School offers parents, carers and pupils free access to The Wellbeing Hub, an expert-led online resource supporting the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people from Year 7 to Year 13.
