20.06.2025 Senior Bulletin

Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

As we approach the final weeks of the school year, it’s a joy to reflect on a truly celebratory and energetic week in the life of our community.

This past Tuesday, our annual Sports Day was an outstanding whole-school event, filled with energy, team spirit and a palpable sense of camaraderie. Every pupil took part in a morning of house competitions, demonstrating athleticism, encouragement and resilience. The day built to a fantastic finale as the whole school gathered around the track for the hotly anticipated 800m, 100m, and relay finals, as well as the fiercely competitive (and always entertaining!) staff race.

We were blessed with glorious weather and an atmosphere of healthy competition between our four houses – School, Smith, Wickett, and Vinter. The cheers, support and spirit shown by pupils and staff alike were second to none. Congratulations to Vinter, who were crowned the overall winners of Sports Day 2025.

Last weekend also saw our Silver Duke of Edinburgh pupils complete their final expedition on Dartmoor, and they did so in truly testing weather. The pupils faced all weathers but showed grit and determination throughout. One parent kindly shared their appreciation with the Outdoor Education staff:

“Having just collected my daughter after she returned from the Silver Expedition this weekend… I wanted to say how much we parents really appreciate all that you and the team did this weekend, and especially Friday night, to make this weekend challenging yet achievable in some pretty testing circumstances… It was hard, but not soul-destroying for them. Thank you for keeping them safe and ensuring that tents didn’t float away etc! She had a blast and made memories that will strengthen her character for the future.”

We are proud of every pupil who took part, and incredibly grateful to the dedicated staff who made the expedition possible.

Also, last weekend, the Year 8 Brittany trip was another triumph, with pupils being immersed in French culture in an action-packed weekend.

Meanwhile, our Gold Duke of Edinburgh pupils have now departed for their final expedition to the Brecon Beacons. We look forward to hearing all about their journey and the experiences they gather during their time in the mountains.

This weekend sees our Year 7 pupils head off on their residential trip to North Devon, where they will take part in an exciting, action-packed programme of outdoor activities. The week is designed to further develop pupils’ teamwork, resilience, and independence, while also giving them the opportunity to enjoy new challenges in a beautiful coastal environment. It promises to be a highlight of their year and a valuable experience as they continue to build bonds and grow in confidence.

Looking ahead, next week brings another exciting moment in the co-curricular calendar, the Year 7 House Music Singing Competition. Every Year 7 pupil will be taking part, having learned their house song in music lessons under the guidance of our Sixth Form leaders. The concert takes place in the Chapel at 4:15pm on Thursday and promises to be a wonderful celebration of music and house spirit. We wish School, Smith, Wickett, and Vinter the best of luck.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of all that we do beyond the classroom. These experiences are not only memorable, but also formative, building character, confidence and community.

With warm regards,

Mrs Zoe Jobling
