28.11.2025 Senior Bulletin

Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

Thank you to all who attended the Year 9 GCSE Options Evening on Monday, 24 November. It was wonderful to see so many of you supporting your children as they begin to make important decisions about their next steps. We hope you found the evening helpful, and please remember that our team is here to answer any follow-up questions. Following on from this event, Year 9 pupils will take part in our Inspiring Futures Day next week. This is an exciting opportunity to explore future pathways through interactive workshops, taster lessons in new GCSE subjects and careers advice. This event is designed to inspire pupils and help them make informed choices for GCSE and beyond.

Next week also marks the start of Year 11 trial (mock) exams. These assessments are an important opportunity for pupils to practise under exam conditions and identify areas for improvement ahead of the summer. We wish all our Year 11 pupils the very best. Work hard, stay calm, and remember that preparation and balance are key.

This week, Rev. Helen introduced her Advent Calendar Boxes during Chapel. Each day brings a new surprise, and the first box celebrated kindness by rewarding tutor groups who had recognised the most acts of care and thoughtfulness to others in the cup of kindness challenge.  This was a wonderful way to start the season of giving.

Finally, we are excited to invite you to our Christmas Fair on Tuesday, 2 December, 4.00 – 6.30pm. The event will feature local sellers with beautiful craft stalls, festive treats, and plenty of seasonal cheer. It’s a fantastic opportunity to support local businesses and pick up unique gifts. Please do come along and join the celebrations.

Please check the school calendar for details of upcoming festive events and end-of-term arrangements.

Thank you for your continued support; wishing you a joyful start to Advent and a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards,

Mrs Emma Ellison

Assistant Head (Director of Studies)

Traffic Safety Reminder

Please can all drivers ensure they use designated parking spaces when dropping off or collecting children from school. For everyone’s safety, please do not stop on the hatched areas.

Pupils should use the pavement around the side of the SBA car park to walk to and from the SBA and school buildings.

Further to Mr Topping’s update last week and as a quick reminder, if you notice any transport concerns on site, please contact our Compliance Officer via [email protected].

For anything relating to road safety or traffic matters outside the school site, please report these to either the highways team at Cornwall Council here or through 101 if there’s a risk to pupils or staff directly.

Thank you once again to all staff and pupils for your continued support.

Uniform Message

Just a reminder that our uniform policy can be found on our website. Pupils are expected to arrive at school in the correct uniform, including appropriate footwear.

Blazers should be worn at all times, even under raincoats. If a pupil needs to remove their blazer, permission must be obtained from a member of staff.

Thank you for your support in ensuring our uniform standards are maintained.

Absence Reminder

A reminder that requests for absence for a planned appointment or event should be made as far in advance as possible in writing to the absence email: [email protected].

All requests will be considered by the Deputy Head (Pastoral), consulting, where necessary, with the Head. We do ask for as much notice as possible and supportive acceptance if, for any reason, we feel that permission should not be granted.

Pupils will only be granted leave to be absent from school in exceptional circumstances. Requests for absence for a holiday or recreational reasons are not considered to be exceptional circumstances.
