Dear Parents & Carers,
As we have basked in the truly beautiful weather this week, I must begin with a reminder of the importance of sunblock, water bottles and school hats. With the children enjoying clubs, activities, sports and break times outdoors (lucky them!), these items remain central to their enjoyment and protection.
Remaining on the subject of good weather, I wish you all a very happy bank holiday weekend and hope that we may see you at the Friends of Truro School Beach Clean at Watergate Bay on Saturday (details later in this Bulletin). As you are aware from previous Bulletins, we have been working hard to increase the children’s awareness of environmental issues and how they can make a positive impact. I am delighted to report that the Nursery children have led the campaign and, thanks in particular to the drive and guidance of Mrs Stableforth, Truro School Prep has been awarded ‘Plastic Free School’ status.
Moving back to activities in school, highlights have included the early rounds of the Truro School Prep ‘Bake off’ competition at the Leith’s Cookery School (courtesy of Mrs Knight), a raft of children engaging in the UKMT National Maths Challenge, Miss Ryder welcoming over 40 guests from local primary schools to partake in a ‘Maths Engagement Day’ and the initial ‘FRideDay’ Bike Bus journey (WhatsApp 07877534374 for Bike Bus information).
We also spent time learning about St George and, in particular, the fact that he is the patron saint of England along with Ethiopia, Iberia, Portugal, Brazil, Russia, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia. Alongside revisiting the legend and history of St George we also used the multi-national aspect to remind ourselves of the importance of appreciating and celebrating diversity and difference. As one would hope, we finished the Prep School assembly by singing ‘When a knight won his spurs in the stories of old’.

Staff update
With the academic year moving towards completion, there are naturally some movements within the staff body.
In the first instance, I am sure that you will wish to join me in congratulating Josh Lord who has been appointed as the Head of Rugby at West Buckland School in Devon (from September 2025). Following the news of Josh’s departure, we have taken the opportunity to implement a small restructure within the prep team and I am delighted to inform you that, from September 2025, Sally Luxton will take on the post of Head of Humanities and Year 5 Belerion Award (a diploma-based program that replaces the now-defunct John Muir award). As a result, we are currently advertising for a Head of Sport and I will, of course, keep you up to speed with all developments.
The end of the current term will also see us wave farewell to Annette Martin and Charlie Fraser, both of whom retire in the summer. Annette has been a stalwart of the Learning Support Department for many years and Charlie, in his role as Operations Manager (across the whole of Truro School), has never failed to keep us on our toes in terms of Health and Safety and Risk Assessment. For the record, the recruitment process for Annette’s replacement is well underway.
Looking ahead
As you are well aware, next week begins with a bank holiday and so we look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday. We have a busy week ahead which includes World AIMS Day, the Year 6 ‘Bake off Showstopper’, more maths challenges, plenty of cricket, the Year 5 ‘Open book look’ (for parents of children in Year 5) and the ‘Truro Senior School information meeting’ for parents of children in Year 6.
I look forward to seeing you all in the days ahead and, in the meantime, I wish you and your children a very happy and sunny bank holiday weekend.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse
Head of Prep

Morning Drop Off
A reminder that access to and parking with the school is limited and can become congested. Alongside the one-way route (entering from the A390 Tresawls Road through to the exit onto Treliske Lane), a ‘drop and go’ system is in place.
We kindly ask that, wherever possible, parents do not park in the staff car park or the visitors’ parking bays for morning drop-off. These spaces are required for staff and visitors who are coming into school for taster days, meetings etc.
If you need to stop for drop-off, there are designated parking bays around the roundabout, with additional spaces behind the Prep swimming pool.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
Grandparents' Cream Tea Afternoon
A polite reminder that the deadline to sign up for the Grandparents’ Cream Tea Afternoon is Sunday 11 May 2025 using this link.
The Grandparents’ Cream Tea Afternoon takes place on Friday 23 May, from 1.45pm to 3pm here at Truro School Prep.
The event will be open to grandparents of pupils in Years 3-6 and is a chance for our pupils to share their school and learning with their wider family members.
Please would you help us by sharing the attached invitation with your child’s grandparents and reply, on their behalf, by Sunday 11th May 2025 using this link.
We understand that not every child will have a grandparent in attendance, and we will ensure that this is treated with sensitivity. We will arrange a separate programme and ‘treat’ for all children who are not directly involved in the afternoon.
Once the deadline has passed, we will send further information to those who have signed up to join us on the 23rd May.
Many thanks for your support in helping us to host this event.
