Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing.” – Pelé
Yesterday, our U14 Football Team made history by becoming the first Cornish side ever to reach the ESFA PlayStation Schools’ Cup Final. In a closely fought game, the boys gave everything, narrowly missing out with a 2-1 result. While the final score didn’t fall our way, their journey and achievement are monumental and a lifetime opportunity that will live long in the memory. We are so proud of their resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
That spirit of striving and seizing the moment has also been deeply evident this week across the school. Our 5th Year and Sixth Form students continue to work with dedication and determination as they move through their GCSE and A-Level examinations. These exams are not just tests of knowledge but a culmination of years of growth, curiosity and persistence, and a chance for every pupil to show the very best of themselves.
Meanwhile, our 4th Year and Lower Sixth students have now completed their trial exams. These assessments are a key stepping stone, offering invaluable insight into both what they’ve learned and how they can refine their exam technique for the year ahead. Their attitude, focus, and maturity this week have been commendable.

As ever, learning at Truro School goes far beyond the classroom. Our Lower Sixth Geologists recently swapped textbooks for tidepools on their fieldwork trip to Rinsey Cove and Kennack Sands, while last year’s Gold DofE participants headed to London for a memorable experience to collect their awards.
Back on home soil, we’ve welcomed back our adventurous 2nd Year pupils from their residential at the Mendip Activity Centre. A huge thank you to the staff who made this unforgettable experience possible.
This week also saw all staff take part in Prevent training as part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and to nurturing a safe, supportive environment in which all pupils can thrive.
With half term around the corner, I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible efforts of our site and grounds team. The school is looking particularly beautiful at the moment, full of life, colour, and the quiet charm that makes our campus such a special place to learn and grow.
As we reflect on the first half of this summer term, I’m reminded that our school theme for the year is creativity, and how brilliantly our pupils have embodied it. From imaginative approaches to revision and problem-solving, to storytelling around the campfire, and the flair and expression shown on the football pitch, they have brought fresh ideas, originality, and joy to every challenge. Their creativity continues to inspire us all.
Wishing you all a restful, happy half term.
With warmest wishes,
Mr James Butterworth
Interim Assistant Head
