Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
My morning began by waving off a group of excited, happy pupils and teachers setting off for the 2nd Year Residential Camp. The sunshine we ordered is shining warmly, and I wish them all a fabulous trip. Staying with the theme of adventure, last weekend, a group of our intrepid pupils took on the formidable Ten Tors Challenge, an extraordinary test of endurance, grit, and teamwork across the wilds of Dartmoor. Their success was not only in reaching the finish line but in the resilience, spirit, and mutual support they showed each step of the way. Well done to all involved. You can read about their adventures in the School News section below.
This theme of compassion and togetherness was echoed in Mr Johnson’s whole school assembly this week, where he asked us to “be the one to act always with kindness.” This is a message as bright and buoyant as the balloons he used to illustrate it. Kindness is infectious and, more than that, it sustains the caring, nurturing community we value so highly.

Over the past two weeks, our year group councils have met to share ideas and feedback from their peers on how we can continue to improve and enhance life at school, both in our community and around our school site. One of the topics raised this half term was packed lunches, which are a key part of our catering provision for pupils attending clubs and fixtures. We will share these ideas with our catering team as a starting point for further discussion and development.
Pupil voice remains a powerful part of our school culture. It is something we are committed to strengthening so that every child feels heard and can play a role in shaping a happy, supportive school environment. Throughout this term, the pastoral team will be reviewing how we gather and respond to pupil voice, and we will be inviting input from pupils, parents and carers to help guide the next steps in this important work.
In reflecting on the richness of our community and what binds us together, I am reminded of Aristotle’s insight that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. Each individual act of support, every kind word or moment of encouragement, builds a stronger, wiser, more resilient community, and it is in that spirit we continue to flourish.
Thank you for your continued support, and I wish you a lovely weekend.
With warmest wishes,
Emma Mitchell
Interim Deputy Head (Pastoral)
