Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

Mr Johnson has sent an important communication regarding Storm Goretti. Please do check your emails for this message, as it contains key information.

Like many across Cornwall, I have seen first-hand the impact of the storm. While I was visiting the hospital in Helston last night, a tree blocked one of the roads in and out for a time, but thankfully, no one was harmed. As the storm approached, we were encouraged to stay indoors and keep as safe as possible.

I stayed overnight at the hospital and, as the winds raged and the power flickered, I was struck by the continued care shown by staff who, together, weathered the storm and put the needs of their patients first at all times.

This morning has brought further disruption for many across the county, and I hope that wherever you are today, you and your loved ones are safe and that any damage has not caused irreparable harm. Near Helston lies one of our treasured coastal communities, Porthleven, where fallen trees blocked main roads until a local mechanic cleared the way in the middle of the night. Moments like these remind me of the courage and compassion shown so readily within our communities.

My thoughts are with all those working on the frontline at this time, often unsung heroes and heroines, from those clearing roads, to those caring for the most vulnerable, reconnecting essential services and helping to rebuild homes.

Six hundred years ago, Julian of Norwich wrote the comforting words, ‘all shall be well’ – words of hope my mother often shared with me. They remind us that we can weather storms when they come. Please hold onto that assurance and take care in the days ahead as rebuilding and reconnecting continues across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Our county may have had a rough night, but the Cornish spirit is very much alive as we continue to support one another and do all we can, in all the ways we can, for all the people we can. If we keep doing that, I truly believe that all shall be well.

Blessings to you and your loved ones,
Rev Helen

Reminder for Parents: The Wellbeing Hub

As part of our ongoing commitment to pupil mental health and wellbeing, Truro School continues to provide parents, carers and pupils with free access to The Wellbeing Hub – an expert-led resource supporting emotional wellbeing for children and young people, with dedicated content for parents.

The Wellbeing Hub is available to all pupils from Year 7 to Year 13, both in school and at home, and many pupils have already been introduced to the platform through PSHE lessons, with remaining sessions taking place during January.

Parents are warmly encouraged to explore the Hub themselves, via the link sent on email, and to guide their children towards resources they may find helpful.

If you need to (re)register or have any access queries, support is available via [email protected].

We hope you continue to find The Wellbeing Hub a valuable source of support for your family and welcome your feedback.

Cash payments in Cafe and Tuck Shop

We are pleased to let you know that we will once again be accepting cash payments in the tuck shop and café. Card payments will continue to be the preferred payment method, but this change is intended to make the facilities more accessible for pupils and families.

As you may recall, we moved to a cashless system a few years ago due to Covid-related transmission concerns, safeguarding considerations around handling cash, and the cost efficiency of card transactions.

In light of feedback from pupils and parents, and with changes such as the introduction of Yondr pouches, some of the original reasons for operating a cashless system are no longer as relevant. The safeguarding of our pupils is still our priority, and we will monitor this change with pupils closely.

The café serves delicious homemade treats, as well as hot and cold drinks, and is open to pupils, parents and Sixth Form students throughout the week (opening times below).

Thank you for your support.
