Dear Parents & Carers,
I apologise for the second communication in as many days. I trust that you have received my message passing on the positive news from the Independent Schools Inspectorate, and, on this point, I take this opportunity to thank the staff and children for making this school such a very special environment. Whilst the ISI report is understandably succinct, the verbal feedback from their representative was, without exception, extremely positive.
Regarding your children, it has been a pleasure to welcome them back to school after the half-term break. In spite of the inclement weather, they have returned in excellent spirits, and they have been hard at work both in and out of the classroom. Activities outside of the normal curricula have included the Under 11 rugby team competing at the IAPS festival at Sherborne Prep School, an introduction to the sport of fencing, and Mr Dove leading a Prep School session on preparation for the forthcoming academic assessments.
Our assemblies for the week have focused on diversity and the importance of respect for others. We explored the fact that we are all different and that this is something to be celebrated rather than feared. Indeed, we agreed that there is much to be gained from learning about other people, their families and cultures, and that a positive approach in some circumstances leads to greater harmony as well as to a more informed, educated, and optimistic society.
Traffic Safety
Continuing the theme of respect for others (or, in this case, perhaps, a lack of respect), I must take this opportunity to identify an ongoing issue concerning those who drive their children to school. We have been made aware of a number of parents who are turning right off the A390 onto the school drive. This is not only illegal, but a danger to other road users and, only this morning, I was contacted by a neighbour who identified a car that ‘turned right into the school drive across oncoming traffic, pedestrians and cyclists ignoring the no right turn signs’. They did not report the event to the police, but have informed me that they will do so should they witness any such incident in the future.

I wholeheartedly appreciate that traffic can be very congested, and particularly so around the Treliske Hospital roundabout, and that it can be very tempting to cut across the traffic into the drive. I must, however, reiterate that we would much rather you arrive late to school than risk your own, your children’s, and other road users’ and pedestrians’ safety.
Entry to the school
Over the past two days, we have installed a keypad and video link to the pedestrian gate, which provides the main access to the School. From Monday morning, if you wish to enter the School (outside of the drop-off and pickup times), you will need to press the ‘bell button’ that is situated on the keypad and engage with the School Office team, who will ‘buzz’ you in.
Staff news
As ever, we endeavour to keep you up to speed with staff developments, and I am sure that you will be pleased to read the following news:
• We are grateful to Sue McIntosh, who extends her time with us through to the end of the term
• Amy Keillor-Jolly rejoins the swimming team after her maternity leave
• Congratulations go to Sensei Eva, who has successfully completed 6 months of theoretical study and a week of practical exams to become the Olympic International Judo Federation’s highest qualified female instructor in the West of England
As we approach the weekend, I hope that you all enjoy the company of your excellent children, and I take this opportunity to thank you once again for ‘lending them to us’ each week.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

Senior School Play - The Bubblegum Tree
Our senior play, The Bubblegum Tree by Jon Welch, is being performed this month. It’s an enthralling play featuring some amazing dance sequences, high dramatic tension, heartbreaking poignancy and some moments of pure comedy. If you and your children would like to come and see the show, tickets are available at www.burrelltheatre.com
Please note that the suggested age for this production is 11+. Younger children are welcome at the discretion of their parents. The play includes themes and language that reflect homophobic banter, threats of violence, and misogynistic attitudes. These are presented thoughtfully to explore and challenge such behaviours, though some scenes may be distressing for certain audience members.
