06.03.2026 Prep Bulletin

Dear Parents & Carers,

What a week! Of course, the hot topic of conversation has been the return of the sun. It has been a genuine pleasure to see the children playing outside at break times, enjoying the blue skies, sunshine, spring flowers, and the smell of fresh-cut grass.

It has also been a week of travel, with sporting fixtures on the local, county, regional and national stage, incorporating trips to Penzance, Camborne, Bristol, Millfield and Malvern (and Cardiff for those who attended the National Nipper Pool Championships with their Surf Lifesaving clubs on Sunday). Educational trips to Lanhydrock House and King Edward Mine have also featured, and back here at school, play rehearsals, music rehearsals, and a raft of visitors have kept us extremely busy.

As you are aware, the week will be rounded off by our Open Morning on Saturday, and I take this opportunity to thank all children and parents who will interrupt their regular Saturday plans to support the school.

With Thursday being the 5th of March, we took great delight in celebrating St Piran’s Day. In addition to a Cornish-themed lunch of pasties and hevva cake, we sang Cornwall My Home, Harry’s Song for Cornwall and Trelawny, before exploring the history of St. Piran. First, we learnt of his early days in Munster, his miraculous healing powers, the incredible journey across the Bristol Channel and his preaching of the gospel to the Cornish people (as well as a badger, a fox and a bear!). We learnt a few Cornish words, the Prep School entered into a Cornish language greetings competition, and the phrase ‘Gool Perran Lowen’ (Happy Saint Piran’s Day) echoed across the school.

To conclude, we took a moment to remember how truly fortunate we are to live in this amazing county with its spectacular land and seascapes, wildlife, history and sense of belonging. In our ever-changing world, it is comforting to know that some things remain constant.

This verse, written for the Gorsedd of Cornwall in 1929, remains as relevant now as it did almost one hundred years ago:

There is a country in the West –

The dear old land of Cornwall. A

It is the land we love the best-

Our Homeland – joy land – Cornwall.

The land of fish, of copper, tin,

The land of glorious beauty –

Of cliffs and skies and seas that win

The hearts of all in Cornwall.

Our forebears loved their countryside

The sea girt land of Cornwall.

Their children scattered far and wide

But Home does still mean Cornwall.

It’s flowers, birds, its vales of rest

Are things of wondrous beauty.

They are the ”bestest of the best,”

To all who hail from Cornwall.

It’s motto – “One and All!” Is one

for every child of Cornwall.

God keep us true ‘tilt life be done.

God bless our Country – Cornwall.

GWAS CROWAN

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and hope that you can find the time to enjoy this wonderful county (and to eat plenty of pasties!).

Oll an gwella,

With every good wish,

Rob Morse

A huge thank you to all the pupils and families involved in the morning – we look forward to seeing you there.

Book Swap for Book Week

Following the magical success of last year’s Mystery Book Swap, we are thrilled to announce that it’s returning — bigger, brighter, and more book-ish than ever!

Once again, we invite every child to take part in this wonderful celebration of reading. All we ask, is that each pupil brings in a used but excellent-quality book — a story they have truly loved, a book that sparked their imagination, made them laugh, kept them guessing, or inspired them in some way. The idea is simple: share a story you treasure so someone else can experience the same joy. With the book, should be a small label with one or two enticing sentences describing the book — just enough to intrigue, without giving too much away!

To keep the mystery alive, each book will be carefully wrapped, the label attached and stamped with our beautiful Book Week seal by our fabulous FTS.

Every classroom already has a special book box waiting to be filled with a dazzling collection of mystery reads, ready to ignite imaginations and inspire a lifelong love of reading. Please ensure that books are appropriate for your child’s current year group.

Last year, the excitement was truly contagious as pupils eagerly selected their mystery books, unwrapped them with anticipation, and discovered new adventures waiting inside. We cannot wait to see that same sparkle of excitement fill our classrooms once again.

Books need to be in school by Monday, March 16th at the latest.

Let the mystery begin!
