16.01.2026 Senior Bulletin

Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

As we reach the end of what has been a particularly eventful fortnight, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the resilience and spirit of our school community.

The unexpected closure due to Storm Goretti was a stark reminder of the power of nature and the importance of prioritising safety. I am deeply grateful for the calm and sensible way our pupils assisted with clearing the school before departure last Thursday, for your support in ensuring their safe journeys home, and for the tireless efforts of both teaching and OPS staff in enabling us to reopen swiftly and safely. The work undertaken was extensive and included clearing debris, repairing buildings, rescheduling trial examinations and restoring normal routines with minimal disruption, a true testament to teamwork across the school.

We are always striving to improve in situations such as these and will be inviting your feedback shortly, particularly on how we can further strengthen our communication and operational arrangements around school closures.

Well done to our Sixth Form students who have been sitting their trial examinations. These provide a valuable opportunity to practise exam technique and identify areas for focus ahead of the summer exams, and we are very proud of the commitment and dedication shown during this important period.

I would also like to extend my thanks to everyone involved in the Year 11 Taster Day. Thank you to the teachers and Sixth Form Team for delivering inspiring A-Level sessions and for warmly welcoming both our pupils and those from other schools to a taste of Sixth Form life. Our thanks, too, to our Year 11 pupils for the maturity and professionalism they demonstrated throughout the day. We look forward to continuing these conversations at the forthcoming Year 11 Parents’ Evening and Options/Final Subject Consultations over the next few weeks.

It was a pleasure to welcome Year 10 parents on Monday evening for the GCSE Information Evening. These discussions mark the beginning of a focused period of target-setting in Year 10, as we work together to maximise every pupil’s academic potential.

Alongside this, I would encourage families across all year groups to remember the equal importance of engagement in extra- and co-curricular opportunities. Research consistently shows that high levels of involvement not only support well-being but also enhance academic outcomes.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

With best wishes for a restful weekend,

Dr Shaun Pope

Deputy Head (Academic)

Trips 25-26

As we look ahead to the rest of the year and beyond, we are delighted to share an updated list of the range of exciting trip opportunities that enrich pupils’ learning well beyond the classroom.

Many of these experiences require advance planning — both in terms of logistics and payment schedules — so we always try sharing them early to give families plenty of time to consider and prepare. We hope that by providing this longer lead‑in period, more pupils will be able to take advantage of these memorable and transformative opportunities. Some of these trips have already been launched and may be full, but new ones have been added, and the cycle will often repeat, depending on the trip.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our co-curricular programme.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected] and one of the team will get in touch.

Last chance:
New York – 3 places remaining
Morocco Surf – 2 places remaining

Please note, Borneo will be launching end of January 2026.

Reminder for Parents: The Wellbeing Hub

As part of our ongoing commitment to pupil mental health and wellbeing, Truro School continues to provide parents, carers and pupils with free access to The Wellbeing Hub – an expert-led resource supporting emotional wellbeing for children and young people, with dedicated content for parents.

The Wellbeing Hub is available to all pupils from Year 7 to Year 13, both in school and at home, and many pupils have already been introduced to the platform through PSHE lessons, with remaining sessions taking place during January.

Parents are warmly encouraged to explore the Hub themselves, and to guide their children towards resources they may find helpful.

*Register via the link in the Parent Portal*

We hope you continue to find The Wellbeing Hub a valuable source of support for your family and welcome your feedback.
