Dear Parents & Carers,
Academic assessments, the Primary Mathematics Challenge, visits from Mr Johnson, Mrs Thurlow, and pupils in Years 7 and 8, a World War 1 History workshop, a visit to the Peace Fields, Interfaith week, an introduction to the National Anti-Bullying Week, hockey, netball and football matches, and Children in Need Day. Not a bad programme of events for the past five days, and even more so when one considers the raft of regular lessons and activities that have taken place.
I will not, however, be reviewing these activities and events, but instead will take this opportunity to reiterate our theme for the week: namely, Remembrance.
Tuesday morning saw over 300 children and staff assemble on the tennis court in the shadow of the Truro School flag. After a short introduction, we paid tribute to the millions who gave their lives during the two World Wars and in numerous conflicts around the world. We focused particularly on the 127 former Truro School pupils who died in the Great War, the Second World War, and in Afghanistan. Following a reading of ‘For the Fallen’, the last post, silence and reveille; children and staff ‘planted’ their poppies in the sand adjacent to the Memorial and flagpole.

As one would expect, we took advantage of our assemblies to add some context to the service and, for the Prep School, this included a reading of John McCrae’s poem ‘In Flanders Fields’. As an educationist and as one who has spent my life encouraging school communities to make the most of our opportunities and to value the importance of service to others, the last two lines of the final verse hold particular resonance for me: ‘to you from falling hands we throw, The torch, be yours to hold it high’.
I did my utmost to explain to the children that my own interpretation of these words is that those who gave their lives would not want our pity; what they would most desire is for us to fulfil in our lives, what they sacrificed in giving theirs.
There is no doubt that we have all been given an amazing opportunity to live in a world, which, although troubled, is a far better one than could ever have existed were it not for the sacrifices of those we remember today. We should, therefore, live our lives to the full, make the most of our opportunities, and do whatever we can to help and assist others.
So on Tuesday morning, we wore and planted our poppies with pride, and we acknowledged that they are a reminder for us to make the very best of the many gifts that we have been given. To be as selfless as so many previous generations were in making their sacrifice, so that we may enjoy our lives today.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

Traffic Around the Prep Site
As we begin a new half term, we would like to remind you of the safety procedures around drop-off and pick-up.
Firstly, please note that there is no right turn into Truro School Prep from the A390.
The “No Right Turn” sign means that traffic is legally prohibited from turning right at this junction. This restriction is in place for safety reasons and to help manage traffic flow. Failure to comply may result in a penalty charge notice (PCN), points on your licence, or a fine.
Instead, please continue to the Treliske Roundabout and return to safely turn left into the Prep drive.
We completely understand that traffic can sometimes cause frustration, but we would always prefer that you arrive a few minutes late rather than take any unnecessary risks.
During the morning drop-off, we encourage all parents to use the one-way system and designated drop-off areas within the Prep School grounds to ensure that children can arrive safely and promptly.
For those who need a little longer, parking is available in the visitor car park to the immediate left before the main gates, or by proceeding through the school to the swimming pool car park. Where possible, please do not remain parked longer than necessary to help keep spaces available for staff and visitors.
Finally, during afternoon pick-up, please ensure the right-hand side of the entrance lane remains clear to allow access for emergency vehicles.
If you are uncertain about any of the drop-off or pick-up arrangements, please do pop into the Prep Office or email us at any time — we’ll be happy to help.
Thank you for your continued support in helping to keep everyone safe and moving smoothly.
Prep Christmas Fayre
We are getting excited about the Prep Christmas Fayre, which is taking place on the 5th of December. See poster below for more information.
We would be grateful if families could start collecting and bringing in donations for the event from the 24th of November. We are collecting the following items:
Head lice
We have been made aware of cases of head lice in Prep and would very much appreciate your help in trying to eradicate them. Please can you check your child’s hair over the weekend, using the wet comb method, to help us become lice free! Head lice are difficult to find in dry hair, but in wet hair, they lose their grip, move more slowly and can be combed out. Regular combing will help to prevent re-infection as it damages the lice and breaks their life cycle.
To avoid using chemical applications, which are very bad for the environment, we recommend washing the hair, rinsing and applying a normal conditioner. Comb through the conditioner with an ordinary comb to remove the tangles. Then, using a head lice comb, part the hair into sections. Comb through, starting at the scalp and out to the end of the hair. After each stroke, check the comb for lice and rinse or wipe the comb on a paper towel. After combing the entire head, rinse out the conditioner.
To try and limit the spread of head lice, we would advise weekly wet-combing as above, maintain long hair in a ponytail or braids, avoid sharing combs/brushes and hair accessories and do not allow head-to-head contact.
Many thanks for your help with this, and have a lovely weekend.

Pentominoes
HOW TO TAKE PART
You can find the weekly Pentominoes challenge HERE every week in the Notices section of the Online School Bulletin.
To access the weekly challenge, you will need to click on the VIEW option below to bring up the weekly challenge.
These can then be printed at home and enjoyed. Please note that they need to be printed off as A3, 100% size (not fit to scale).
If you do not have an A3 printer at home, there are ready-printed copies in the Prep Reception Office that your children can collect on a Friday and bring home.
Finally, hints on how to solve the puzzle will be available each week. These will also be here in the Notices section should you get stuck!
Please take a photo of the completed challenge and email it to Mrs Ryder at [email protected]
