Dear Parents & Carers,
Having welcomed Year 6 back from France, we gave them little time to recuperate before packing them off to the Senior School for transition days on Monday and Tuesday and throwing them into the thick of rehearsals for the forthcoming production of The Lion King.
There was no let-up for the rest of the school either, with Year 3 enjoying a ceramics workshop under the watchful eye of ceramicist, Lucy Joines, Year 5 at Fistral for a surf day, the U11A cricket team competing in the final of the county cup, a maths careers fair for Years 2, 3 and 4 (hosted by the Year 6 pupils), the Year 2 Leavers’ assembly and, of course, sports days for both Pre-Prep and Prep.
As I have written before, sports days are one of my favourite events of the year (even in unpredictable weather!). Thursday’s Pre-Prep Sports Day was a delightful event, and it was a pleasure to see so many excited and happy children, and even more excited and happy parents. This positive mood continued on Friday morning with some amazing performances, superb displays of sportsmanship and plenty of smiling faces amongst competitors and spectators… and then the heavens opened! I am so sorry that the rain put paid to our plans and take this opportunity to apologise for any and all inconveniences.
As I explained to those present, we have ‘paused’ the event and will return to it at the end of next week. In terms of organisation, each event that has taken place has been recorded, and the results will stand. Any outstanding presentations will take place next week, and we will also complete the outstanding individual events.
The Prep School Sports Day (part 2) will take place next Friday from 1.20 to 3:40pm. We will follow a similar routine to this week, in that we ask that you send your children to school in PE kits. We will open the gates for parking at 1.05pm, and I hope that some of you will be able to join us.

Moving away from sport and to our theme for the week, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that we have returned once again to ‘table manners’. Prep and Pre-Prep assemblies provided the opportunity for me to share breakfast and lunch with Mrs Morse and Miss Williams, respectively. Having demonstrated some of the less salubrious manners we have witnessed in the school dining room (much to the hilarity of the children), we spent some time exploring how we might improve our table manners.
We are far from the finished article, but I am delighted to report that there has been a noticeable improvement in the latter part of the week. We will continue to work on this where we can and, to pick up the sporting theme once again, this will most definitely be a marathon rather than a sprint!
Finally, I hope that we will see many of you at the Friends of Truro School Summer Fête tomorrow (Saturday, 14th June from 12-3pm). Whether you can make it or not, I wish you all a lovely weekend.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse
