Dear Parents & Carers,
School life has seemed particularly busy this week. In addition to the regular academic, sporting, creative and co-curricular programmes, activities have included a raft of sports fixtures, Year 1 visiting Tolcarne, Nursery travelling to Maenporth, Cornwall Search Dogs visiting the Reception Class, Mr Silk’s apple extravaganza progressing from chutney to juice making (courtesy of Healeys), the Gabrieli Roar singing workshop, Gabrieli, and Year 5 Ballerion Award presentations and workshops from Surfers against Sewage, One Blue Eye (transforming plastic waste into usable products) and from Mr Willsher on Island Life.
In addition, and from the children’s perspective, two competitions have moved into the spotlight: the House Music Competition and the Truro School Conker Competition. The former sees each house voting for their favourite performers (via audio clips so as to ensure voting is based entirely upon the performance), with those selected going through to the final next Friday.
Running alongside this has been the preparation for this year’s Truro School Conker Competition. Running alongside the World Conker Championships, there is much excitement about the forthcoming matches, but I am especially pleased that the competition has provided the opportunity for us to focus on autumn. We have once again revelled in the beautiful autumnal weather (augmented by the opportunity to spot the Harvest Supermoon) and we have wholeheartedly encouraged the children to look up and out, and to appreciate our very special environment at this particularly beautiful time of year.

I have shared with you before one of my favourite poems, a short verse by Nicolette Sowder, which wholeheartedly encapsulates the importance of helping children to develop an understanding and respect for our natural environment. Alongside the obvious benefits of spending time outdoors and of appreciating the beauty and wonder of nature, it helps us instil an appreciation of caring and again of the importance of service:
May we raise children who love the unloved things
by Nicolette Sowder
May we raise children
who love the unloved things – the dandelion, the
worms & spiderlings.
Children who sense
the rose needs the thorn
& run into rainswept days
the same way they turn towards sun…
And when they’re grown &
someone has to speak for those
who have no voice
may they draw upon that
wilder bond, those days of
tending tender things
I wish you all a very happy weekend and hope that you will have the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful county of Cornwall.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

Truro School Action Plan 2025-26
We are pleased to invite you to a presentation outlining this year’s Action Plan on Wednesday, 15 October 2025 , at 6.30pm – 8.30pm in the Burrell Theatre, Truro School.
Please let us know if you are attending by completing the form here.
Update from the Prep Medical Team
With various illnesses circulating, please be aware of the school’s policy regarding absence and care for the following:
1. Sickness/Diarrhoea
It is our policy that children must stay at home until a clear 48 hours have passed since the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea. We would like to avoid the spread as much as possible, so we appreciate your cooperation with this.
2. Colds, Coughs & Sore Throats
It’s that time of year when most of us are fending off some sort of cold or sore throat! We encourage the children to still come into school as long as they do not have a temperature and are well enough to concentrate. If you have given your child Calpol before they come in and would like us to administer a second dose during the school day, please pick up a permission form from the Reception Office or ask us to email one over to you. Any medicine dropped into us must be in its original packaging, named and handed in for my attention, please.
3. Water
A reminder that all children should bring in a named water bottle daily, please. I have so many children sent to me with headaches who admit they have not drunk any water, so I would really appreciate your ongoing help with stressing the importance of keeping hydrated to help their immune system fend off the bugs!
Stay well!

HOW TO TAKE PART
You can find the weekly Pentominoes challenge HERE every week in the Notices section of the Online School Bulletin.
You will have been emailed the Bulletin on a Friday, and it can also be found on the Truro School website at https://www.truroschool.com/parents/weekly-bulletin/

Finally, hints on how to solve the puzzle will be available each week. These will also be here in the Notices section should you get stuck!
Please take a photo of the completed challenge and email it to Mrs Ryder at [email protected]
Each child who completes the weekly puzzle and sends in a photo of their solution will be awarded one puzzle point.
After every three puzzle points gained, children will receive a certificate in our celebration assemblies.
