28.11.2025 Prep Bulletin

Dear Parents & Carers,

Another week flies by, and with it the customary raft of activities and events both in and out of the classroom. Whilst we have revelled in netball, football and conker matches, the first raft of Year 6 pupils experiencing immersive first aid training at ‘In Safe Hands ‘and the arrival of the Christmas trees, the highlight of the week was, without doubt, the Year 5 production of ‘Divine Interventions’. We have known for some time that there is a rich vein of dramatic talent flowing through the school, and Year 5 treated the audience to a most entertaining hour of theatre and comedy. I take this opportunity to thank Mrs Gregory and her team, and each and every child in Year 5, for such an enjoyable evening.

With our eyes turning towards Christmas, rehearsals for end-of-term events have gathered pace, and I take this opportunity to remind you that the weekly year-group email messages should be your first port of call for all diary events. Indeed, we look forward to welcoming you, as parents and families, at the forthcoming FTS Christmas Fayre on Friday 5th December, the EYFS and Key Stage I Nativity plays (Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th December), and the Prep School ’Twelve Days of Christmas Concert’ (which will take place at Truro Methodist Church on Wednesday 10th December). Each and every child from Nursery through to Year 6 will be involved in one of these events, and I do hope that you will be able to join us.

Looking further down the line, you are, of course, welcome to join the full Truro School community for a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in Truro Cathedral on the 16th December. Please check the weekly year group messages and links for further details.

Returning to the here and now, this week’s theme has been that of table manners. Whilst there is no doubt that society in general places less emphasis on this than in the past, it remains an important part of a Truro School Prep education, not least because it encourages the children to think of their impact on others. This, as you well know, remains a regular theme here at Treliske House.

As ever, I must thank Mrs Morse for helping me model what good and, conversely, not such good manners look like. In front of a packed assembly hall, I was able to reconstruct some of the unusual practices that I had witnessed in the lunch hall (this unfortunately included Mrs Morse being sprayed with food and water), as well as demonstrating how we can best manage ourselves at mealtimes.

As identified above, the overriding theme remains that of thinking of others and making a positive impact on their lives. I am delighted to report that subsequent mealtimes saw a marked improvement, and we will continue to do our utmost to assist and encourage in this area. I only hope that this upturn will continue through to the weekend (so you can see for yourselves) and, furthermore, that it can become embedded into our routines.

Strategic Plan Survey
Many thanks to all who have already completed the survey, circulated by Andy Johnson last week. As ever, your feedback is greatly appreciated and, if you haven’t yet had the opportunity to engage, you can access the survey (which remains open until the 30th November) at:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XCMPVSP

As ever, I wish you all a very happy weekend with your lovely children, and I hope that your mealtimes will be as enjoyable as ours have been in recent days.

With every good wish,

Rob Morse

Please complete the survey here > https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XCMPVSP

Please do submit as much or as little information as you wish, via the link above, by 10pm on Sunday 30 November. All feedback will be valuable and analysed to help.

Twelve Days of Christmas Concert

A reminder about the Christmas Concert at Truro Methodist Church 6:00pm until 7:00pm.

Due to building work taking place at Truro Methodist Church, they have asked us to limit the number of guests to 350. To ensure that this number is not exceeded, please could you book tickets on the link below. There is, of course, no charge for this.

In the first instance, to ensure all families can attend, we are limiting it to 2 tickets per family, with any additional tickets being made available from Thursday, 4 December.

We are expecting Truro to be busy on the night of 10 December, due to late-night shopping. There will be limited parking available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Senior School site. Please only use the available designated parking bays.

Chutney Raffle

Families are core-dially invited to take part in an exciting raffle, being held from the 1st of December at Truro School Prep to win a huge jar, jam-packed with the delicious preserve.

Tickets for the chutney raffle are being sold in aid of Michael and Clare Morpurgo’s charity, Farms for City Children.

Priced at just £1 per square, each ticket secures a space on a board of 100 squares and will be available to buy at drop-off and pick-up throughout the week. One lucky square will be drawn on the last day of term to win the mega-supply of Prep Chutney.

Prep Christmas Fayre

We are getting excited about the Prep Christmas Fayre, which is taking place on the 5th of December. See poster below for more information.

We would be grateful if families could bring in donations for the event. We are collecting the following items:

  • Jam jar stall – either filled jam jars or sweet packets – ALL DONATIONS MUST BE SEALED IN ORIGINAL PACKAGING AND FEATURE AN INGREDIENT LIST. No nuts, please.
  • Clean stuffed toys
  • Books, puzzles and board games
  • Complete Lego sets

A reminder that, to attend the fayre, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Santas on the Run

We will be taking part in the Santas on the Run Schools Challenge on 17th December 2025, raising money for Children’s Hospice South West.

Please help us raise vital funds for families supported by their 3 hospices across the South West.

  • £30 could help fund their 24-hour phone line so that even at Christmas, every call is answered.
  • £86 could help fund 1 hour of care for a family at one of their hospices at Christmas and all year round.
  • £100 could help provide a parent with an uninterrupted night’s sleep, to give them the strength to face tomorrow

The FTS Team is asking for donations ahead of the event and would be grateful for donations here.

Pentominoes

HOW TO TAKE PART:
You can find the weekly Pentominoes challenge HERE every week in the Notices section of the Online School Bulletin.

To access the weekly challenge, you will need to click on the VIEW option below to bring up the weekly challenge.

These can then be printed at home and enjoyed. Please note that they need to be printed off as A3, 100% size (not fit to scale).

If you do not have an A3 printer at home, there are ready-printed copies in the Prep Reception Office that your children can collect on a Friday and bring home.

Finally, hints on how to solve the puzzle will be available each week. These will also be here in the Notices section should you get stuck!

Please take a photo of the completed challenge and email it to Mrs Ryder at [email protected]
