20.03.2026 Prep Bulletin

Dear Parents & Carers,

The sunshine has returned and with it the smell of fresh cut grass and the sound of children delighting in time spent outdoors; after a long and arduous winter, spring has truly sprung!

The regular routine of prospective parents and visiting children has been accompanied by football and netball matches, cross-country events, preparation for forthcoming plays and concerts, the Year 6 Debate (This House believes that fast food does more harm than good), the UKMT maths challenge, a mufti day for Comic Relief and trips to the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association Farm and Country Day, King Edward mine and Truro Cathedral. As if that wasn’t enough, our primary focus has been Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and Mrs Waddling-Height has led a series of educational assemblies and activities throughout the school.

Whilst these events are many and varied, the constant theme that runs through them is that of community; of respecting and celebrating our differences and working together for the common good. It is therefore not by chance that this week’s theme has been the Truro School community.

During this week’s assemblies, we took a moment to reflect upon how lucky we are to be part of the Truro School family and how easy it is to take this for granted. As you are aware, I am in the extremely fortunate position of being able to show numerous visitors (from prospective parents and former pupils to governors and heads of schools) around Truro School Prep and, without exception, they all comment upon the warm welcome they receive, the confidence of the children and the overwhelming feeling of family and community.

We took the time to explore ‘What makes a good community?’, and to identify that such environments are places of support and growth, but also places of challenge and transformation. Most importantly, they are places where ‘the whole is more than the sum of its parts’, where together a group can achieve things that are far beyond the scope and dreams of the constituent parts.

This led us to identify that we all, as individuals, have an integral part to play in building and maintaining such a community. We are all different (thank goodness!) and the key is for us to respect these differences, to understand and to celebrate them.

As I have explained to your children before (and I repeated these words to the gathered parents at our Open Day earlier in the term), they will spend their lives working with, living with and loving other people; those they work alongside, those they work for, those they employ, their friends, partners and families. The values

and skills that are imparted here and now, are the building blocks of their own principles, ideals and relationships going forward.

Kindness, respect and service to others remain central to our own Truro School Prep community and will, I hope, remain close to the children’s hearts as they grow into the wider world.

I wish you a wonderful weekend with your lovely children, and I hope that the sun shines upon you all.

With every good wish,

Rob Morse

A message from Truro School Prep Medical Care

Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians

You may have seen reports of a meningococcal disease outbreak in Canterbury, Kent.

The situation is a reminder of the importance of early recognition of meningitis in residential and school settings. Although meningitis is rare, young people living in close quarters can be at increased risk because meningococcal bacteria spread through close respiratory contact.

The MenB vaccine was added to the NHS immunisation schedule for infants in 2015, providing protection for babies and young children in the UK; those born before 1 May 2015 will not have received the MenB vaccine as part of that schedule. If you would like to check if your child has received this vaccine, please check their NHS red book (Personal Child Health Record) or contact their GP.

Guidance:

Please remain alert for possible symptoms, particularly if your child becomes suddenly unwell.

Symptoms of meningitis can appear in any order. Some may not appear at all. In the early stages, there may not be a rash, or the rash may fade when pressure is applied.

You should get medical help immediately if you’re concerned about yourself or your child.

Trust your instincts and do not wait for all the symptoms to appear or until a rash develops.

Symptoms of meningitis and sepsis include:

· a high temperature

· cold hands and feet

· vomiting

· confusion

· breathing quickly

· muscle and joint pain

· pale, mottled or blotchy skin (this may be harder to see on brown or black skin)

· spots or a rash (this may be harder to see on brown or black skin)

· headache

· a stiff neck

· a dislike of bright lights

· being very sleepy or difficult to wake

· fits (seizures)

More information can be found on the NHS website Meningitis – NHS

Pentominoes

HOW TO TAKE PART:
You can find the weekly Pentominoes challenge HERE every week in the Notices section of the Online School Bulletin.

To access the weekly challenge, you will need to click on the VIEW option below to bring up the weekly challenge.

These can then be printed at home and enjoyed. Please note that they need to be printed off as A3, 100% size (not fit to scale).

If you do not have an A3 printer at home, there are ready-printed copies in the Prep Reception Office that your children can collect on a Friday and bring home.

Finally, hints on how to solve the puzzle will be available each week. These will also be here in the Notices section should you get stuck!

Please take a photo of the completed challenge and email it to Miss Ryder at [email protected]
