Dear Parents & Carers,
As we reach the end of the autumn term, it would be all too easy to use this Bulletin as an opportunity to list the many events and achievements that have taken place over the course of the last three months. To do so, however, would be to repeat the weekly communications that have come your way each Friday and, more importantly, to miss the opportunity to impart messages of greater significance.
For, whilst this term may be remembered for all manner of experiences and achievements (there is no doubt that the children have worked hard to make the most of their opportunities and talents), it is the values of kindness, respect, and service to others that have made the greatest impact on our community.
We have shared all manner of enjoyable challenges and activities (the Nativity plays and the Twelve Days of Christmas Concert spring immediately to mind), and like every family, there have been times when we have needed to look at our choices, to learn from our experiences, and to grow as individuals and as a community. And in terms of that community, we are lucky indeed to benefit from our shared values, close relationships, support for each other, and a sense of belonging… and we have enjoyed a good deal of fun along the way!
As I have written before, news reports contain nothing but demoralising and depressing stories, but if one is ever looking for a more positive perspective, one need only look at the children in our community to realise that our future is in very safe hands.

Of course, none of these things will be possible without a talented staff. The Truro School Prep Team has given wholeheartedly throughout the term (and often during the holidays), and I take this opportunity to thank them for their professionalism, enthusiasm, and determination.
On the topic of staff, I am sure that you will wish to join me in congratulating Cesca Ryder, who, after a selection process that involved a substantial field of candidates from across the world, has been appointed as Assistant Head Pastoral. Cesca will take up this post at Easter when Will Silk leaves us to take up the Headship of Perrott Hill School in Somerset.
We also say goodbye to Sue McIntosh, who leaves us after 21 years of dedicated service to Truro School Prep. Sue will be much missed by children, staff, and parents alike, and we wish her every success as she takes up the post of Assistant Premises Manager at Penryn College in January. Her successor, Marie Bluck, has visited on a number of occasions this term, and we look forward to her joining us in the New Year.
Looking forward to the New Year, I will write early in January with any updates. In advance of the new term, please note the messages in this Bulletin with regard to the naming of kit and equipment, and guidance on the purchase of any new school shoes.
And finally, to our parents, families, and friends of Truro School. I take this opportunity to thank you for your kindness and support, and for entrusting us with your children over these past 14 weeks.
I wish you a wonderful holiday with your lovely children, and I look forward to seeing you all once again in the New Year.
With season’s greetings and every good wish,
Rob Morse

Uniform Updates
A reminder for the holidays to please check that your children’s uniform, kit and equipment are clearly named. It is hugely helpful and allows us to easily return any misplaced items to their rightful owners.
If you are buying new school shoes over the holidays, please ensure that they are of a traditional and polishable ‘leather’ type. The attached should be of assistance in terms of guidance.
Farms for City Children
A huge thank you to all of the pupils, families and staff who have worked so hard to fundraise for Farms for City Children.
The total raised this term was £456.55.
Eddie G was the lucky winner of the chutney raffle and goes home with a year’s supply.
A Plastic Free Christmas
As part of our Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Schools Campaign, Truro School Pre-Prep have been busy trying to reduce our plastic waste. We have swapped three plastic items for items we can simply recycle, compost or put into our garden waste.
1) Shiny plastic wrap swap. We used paper not shiny plastic wrapping.
2) Sticky tape swap. We used string, twine, raffia or masking tape rather than sticky tape.
3) Plastic table and door decoration swap. Make wreaths by using just string around branches like bay and fir. Use natural decoration like dried oranges and cinnamon or use ribbon and baubles you reuse next year. Reception and Nursery made the beautiful wreath on the Pre-Prep gate!

Flu Clinics
As you may have heard, there have been flu outbreaks around Cornwall, and flu is predicted to be particularly virulent this year.
Kernow Health, who ran the nasal vaccinations in our school earlier this term, would like you to be aware that they will be running flu clinics at various locations across Cornwall in early/mid-December, by appointment only.
If this is something your family/friends may find useful, please contact Kernow Health directly via 01872 221105 or [email protected] for further information.
Kernow Health is hoping the uptake in Cornwall can be significantly increased to reduce the likelihood of further flu outbreaks, especially around Christmas.
