Dear Parents & Carers,
Whilst normal routine and the usual raft of trips and activities have kept us busy, this week seems to have been one of visitors. In addition to visiting pupils and prospective parents, we have welcomed dancers to lead MFL Flamenco workshops, the RNLI for a water safety lecture and a representative from the ‘Restless Development’ charity to deliver an assembly on the National School’s Triathlon (details to follow under separate cover). We also welcomed two Truro School governors who spent the day with us on Tuesday. I am delighted to report that they thoroughly enjoyed their visit and their feedback was universally positive.
Remaining on the same theme, earlier in the term, we received a visit from a representative of the Good Schools Guide. Their report landed in my inbox last week, and I can honestly say that I have rarely, if ever, read such a positive review. Like most people who visit the school, they were excited by our facilities and the opportunities for the children; they were impressed by our staff, and above all, they were truly amazed by the children. The report is well worth a read and can be found at the following link: Good Schools Guide – Prep – Truro School.

That said, if you are short of time, their closing words read as follows:
‘Pupils brim over with an infectious enthusiasm for their school in an engaging and eloquent manner. The lasting impression was of one big, happy community where parents, pupils and staff work together to ensure this is a school experience that brings a smile to your face. Teaching is upbeat, inclusive and immersive, with a commitment to ensure that every child feels challenged and given the belief that they can achieve.
Truro School Prep is a truly magical school where traditional values underpin an education that is broad and inspirational, with an impressive focus on metacognition from a young age. We saw technology in use whenever it could be, teaching that encouraged future proofing as much as academic adventure and facilities that inspired inclusion, all knitted together by a strong, happy and inquisitive core of empathy, academia and manners.’
Apart from being extraordinarily proud and utterly delighted to receive such a ringing endorsement, the report gave me the opportunity to revisit our well-used motto, ‘You get what you give’, during assemblies throughout the week. Furthermore, it allowed me to remind the children that this is very much ‘their school’ and its success is a direct result of their own actions: their application and determination in the classroom and throughout the co-curricular programme; the high expectations they have for themselves and others; their kindness, respect and consideration for others; their understanding of the importance of service and, of course, the fun that they have along the way.
As I have written and said before, the briefest of glimpses at the news identifies all manner of global issues and much gnashing of teeth as to what the future holds. With children like these, I have no doubt that our future is in the very safest of hands!
I wish you all a delightful weekend and Mother’s Day with your wonderful children.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

Cookery Food Containers
We are currently running a little short of the food containers used during our cookery lessons. As part of our effort to be more environmentally responsible, we have purchased reusable containers made from recycled materials so that we can reduce single-use packaging wherever possible.
Some of these containers may have gone home with pupils after their cookery sessions. If possible, could you please check your cupboards and return any school containers your child may have at home? Returning them will help ensure that we have enough available for upcoming lessons.
Containers can be sent back into school with your child at any time over the coming days.
Thank you very much for your support in helping us promote reuse and reduce waste.
Kind regards,
Rebecca Knight

Schools' Triathlon Presentation
At Wednesday’s Assembly, Lucy Kirk from Restless Development gave a wonderfully motivational talk to Years 3-6 about the Schools’ Triathlon, which takes place at King’s College, Taunton on Sunday 28th June.
This event gives children a chance to come together in teams of four to complete a triathlon in a relay format, giving each member a chance to swim, cycle and run for charity.
Parents of children who would like to take part should click here to access further information.
Book Swap for Book Week
Following the magical success of last year’s Mystery Book Swap, we are thrilled to announce that it’s returning — bigger, brighter, and more book-ish than ever!
Once again, we invite every child to take part in this wonderful celebration of reading. All we ask, is that each pupil brings in a used but excellent-quality book — a story they have truly loved, a book that sparked their imagination, made them laugh, kept them guessing, or inspired them in some way. The idea is simple: share a story you treasure so someone else can experience the same joy. With the book, should be a small label with one or two enticing sentences describing the book — just enough to intrigue, without giving too much away!
To keep the mystery alive, each book will be carefully wrapped, the label attached and stamped with our beautiful Book Week seal by our fabulous FTS.
Every classroom already has a special book box waiting to be filled with a dazzling collection of mystery reads, ready to ignite imaginations and inspire a lifelong love of reading. Please ensure that books are appropriate for your child’s current year group.
Last year, the excitement was truly contagious as pupils eagerly selected their mystery books, unwrapped them with anticipation, and discovered new adventures waiting inside. We cannot wait to see that same sparkle of excitement fill our classrooms once again.
Books need to be in school by Monday, March 16th at the latest.
Let the mystery begin!
