Dear Parents & Carers,
We may have been back for just a week, but it seems as though the last seven days have delivered a year’s worth of weather! I am so very sorry that the forecast put paid to our plans for the FTS barbecue and picnic this evening. We hope to reschedule the event for a Friday later in the month and will keep you updated on all developments.
For those of you who are new to the online Bulletin, please note, you can scroll down the page to find our weekly calendar, stories, notices and achievements. All of the Bulletins (including the Senior Bulletin) can also be found on the Truro School website at https://www.truroschool.com/parents/weekly-bulletin/
Whilst many children enjoyed a ‘two-day’ week last week, more than a few kept themselves busy over the weekend. The Under 10 rugby team travelled with Mr Ward and Mr Frewer to the Millfield Festival on Saturday, and reports suggest that they had a great deal of fun and played extremely well. Sunday witnessed the induction of new choristers at Truro Cathedral. It was a pleasure to see our eight probationers (including girls for the very first time) join the ranks, and the existing choristers sang quite beautifully. I do hope that you will have the opportunity to hear them in the months ahead.
Returning to daily school life, the unpredictable weather has also made for some exciting times here at Treliske House, and there is nothing like a biblical downpour to heighten the spirits (especially of the children). We experienced such torrents yesterday afternoon, and I apologise for any dripping children that made their way into your cars at pickup time. Our intrepid Year 6s were lucky to avoid such a soaking on their year group walks around St. Agnes Beacon and Chapel Porth; apparently, the rain set in just as they finished, but as they were eating ice creams at the time, it didn’t matter in the slightest! Further year group walks will take place in the weeks ahead, with Year 5 heading to Bodmin Moor, Year 4 to St Anthony’s Head, and Year 3 to Trelissick.

Here at the Prep School, assemblies have focused on making the most of the opportunities available to us. We looked at Stanley CB Fry, sportsman, cricketer, diplomat, and politician, as an example of an individual who certainly made the most of his talents! The main theme of the assembly was that we can all achieve if we are willing to apply ourselves, and this is summed up in our quote for the week: “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine”. I have taken up the mantra for myself and have challenged the children to do the same.
In the Pre-Prep, we have revisited the importance of the Golden Rules and, across the school, we have reiterated the importance of service to others.
Staff News
You will, I am sure, be sorry to hear that Sue McIntosh, our Support Services Manager, will be leaving us on the 28th of November after 21 years here at Truro School Prep. There will be a number of opportunities for us to say goodbye to Sue in due course, but I take this opportunity to thank her for all that she has done for the school. She will be greatly missed. Looking to the future, we have already initiated the recruitment process, and I will write again once this is complete.
Looking Ahead
In addition to the aforementioned year group walks, the children are very much looking forward to next week’s U10/U11 rugby and hockey festivals in Plymouth.
Looking a little further down the line, we have individual school photos taking place on the 23rd of September and both the European Day of Languages and the FTS Macmillan coffee morning on the 26th of September.
The Prep and Pre-Prep Harvest Festivals will take place in the week of the 29th of September (please see information from Rev Helen in the Notices Section below regarding donations to the Food Bank).
I look forward to seeing you all soon and, in the meantime, wish you a very happy weekend with your lovely children.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse
Head of Prep

Harvest Festival
We are delighted to announce we will be celebrating our Harvest later this half term, with Pre-Prep Harvest on Tuesday, 30th September and Prep Harvest on Thursday, 2nd October.
Each year, we encourage our pupils to bring in food and supplies for a foodbank in Cornwall, and this year we have chosen the Newquay Foodbank to support.
If you are interested in knowing more about their work, you can visit their website here.
The Foodbank has given us a list of items they particularly need at this time, so please give generously if you are able.
Bags/boxes of donations can be brought into school and stored in your child(ren)’s form room(s) and, for Pre-Prep, in Pre-Prep reception.
After the Harvest, we will take all donations to the Foodbank.
Here’s the list of suggested items (please note any food items should have a long life date on them please):
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity,
Revd Helen Byrne, Chaplain
