17.10.2025 Prep Bulletin

Dear Parents & Carers,

The Year 3 walk at Trelissick, learning progress meetings across the school, hockey matches in Cornwall and Devon, rugby matches in Devon, Year 3 Roald Dahl day, the ‘Great Debate’ (this house believes that school uniform should not be compulsory), delivering harvest gifts to the food bank, Art and English trips to St Ives, visits from governors, visits from prospective parents, the Pre-Prep light party and the Prep School House music finals…. all in the past five days! Children and staff (and parents) certainly deserve the forthcoming half term break.

Of course, we have also carried out the regular schedule of lessons, activities, games and after-school clubs, and, in terms of our focus for the week, we have continued to encourage the children to ‘look up and out’, this week, paying particular attention to the county of Cornwall.

Having sung Harry Glasson’s ‘Cornwall my home’, we went on a virtual tour of the county, firstly taking in the places in West Cornwall that feature in the lyrics. We then took the opportunity to explore the county’s coastline before looking at a few of Cornwall’s inland features. We also spent some time exploring its history and language, as well as touching upon its many saints and its links with art and literature.

Most importantly, we spent time exploring ‘what makes a home’ and we identified that, whilst we are incredibly lucky to live in this amazing county, home is where our hearts and families lie.

By way of a challenge, I have asked the children to try to learn something new about Cornwall over the forthcoming half term break. I truly hope that you will have the opportunity to do so together, as I can think of nothing better than spending time in the company of our families in this beautiful county.

In the words of Harry Glasson:

Dref-en bos ow Eden, ha’m honan nyns ov,

Rag bo-nes ow Hernow rag bo-nes ow threv!

Or:

For this is my Eden, and I’m not alone,

For this is my Cornwall, and this is my home!

I wish you all a very happy holiday with your wonderful children.

With every good wish,

Rob Morse

Pentominoes

Please note that this week’s pentominoes challenge will run until Wednesday 5th November 2025.

HOW TO TAKE PART

You can find the weekly Pentominoes challenge HERE every week in the Notices section of the Online School Bulletin.

To access the weekly challenge, you will need to click on the VIEW option below to bring up the weekly challenge.

These can then be printed at home and enjoyed. Please note that they need to be printed off as A3, 100% size (not fit to scale).

If you do not have an A3 printer at home, there are ready-printed copies in the Prep Reception Office that your children can collect on a Friday and bring home.

Finally, hints on how to solve the puzzle will be available each week. These will also be here in the Notices section should you get stuck!

Please take a photo of the completed challenge and email it to Mrs Ryder at [email protected]
