A New Year of WAAs Begins

A new academic year at Truro School means a new timetable, new faces, and every Wednesday afternoon, a fresh raft of activities to get stuck into as our pupils and students come off timetable to explore their co-curricular interests.

With over 30 different Wednesday Afternoon Activities (WAAs) on offer this term, pupils across the school are once again stepping outside of the academic to learn, grow and develop in new and exciting ways. This unique offering sits right at the heart of the Truro School ethos: to know, challenge and empower our pupils and students.

For our new Year 7 pupils, WAAs are one of the very first ways they settle into life at Truro School, offering an opportunity to make new friendships across shared interests and different year groups.

WAAs give pupils the space to try something completely new or to sharpen a talent they already have. Whether that’s honing skills on the rugby or hockey pitches, working on a full-scale theatrical production, getting creative with a project in digital photography or printmaking, going to battle in wargaming, or heading off site to surf, horseride or skateboard, pupils are encouraged to set themselves a genuine challenge and crucially, to see it through.

For our older pupils and students, WAAs offer a chance to take on responsibility or mentoring within sessions, helping them to build confidence and leadership skills.

Of course, the WAA programme helps all of our pupils develop resilience, self-discipline and teamwork and serves as a reminder that a Truro School education is about far more than the academic.
