George’s Sailing Success

Congratulations to George, who was offered a space on a six-day Ocean Yacht master course in December. The teaching and exam saw him awarded the Ocean Yacht Master theory qualification, which is the highest theory award achievable in sailing. George scored 100% in the final exam. Learning alongside professional boat captains, he is delighted with the score and achievement.

As part of his Sixth Form studies, George is completing his EPQ on celestial navigation and is looking to design and construct a new transportable sextant, which has made the qualification and experience invaluable.

During the summer months, George participated in the World Championships in France and the National Championships.

George has been yacht racing for several years, but due to his age, lacked helm time. This year he secured his own boat and formed a sailing team (EWE boat racing). He gained an exemption entry into Falmouth weeks Champaign race, as the youngest helm and has been busy skippering in numerous evening and weekend events.

George’s Father, Steve, has said, “The school is a perfect fit for George, as it allows him to just be himself. He always gets asked, where do you go to school and do they support you, and he always answers proudly that he is at Truro School, and they let him go sailing.”
