The Truro School campus looked splendid in the Autumnal sunshine as we welcomed current and prospective pupils, and their families, to our annual Sixth Form Open Evening. The event offers a glimpse into life at Truro School Sixth, with opportunities to tour our outstanding facilities, hear from our Head and Sixth Form Team, and chat with department heads, careers specialists, and our incredible current students and Senior Prefects.
Truro School continues to set the standard for academic excellence in Cornwall. We were proud to be the leading A-Level provider in Cornwall, and this year’s grades were even stronger. Overall, 50% of grades were awarded A*/A and over 80% of all grades at A* to B for 2025.
Alongside these fantastic grades, our ALPS scores also put us in the top 10% of A-Level providers in the UK.
ALPS scores are a national benchmark that focuses on value-added, or the difference between the actual A-Level grades a student achieves and the expected grades based on their prior attainment (typically GCSE scores). ALPS scores allow us to understand the very real difference that the education that Truro School Sixth Form provides makes to every student.
Yet, as our prospective students discovered, academic achievement is just one part of the Truro School Sixth experience. Our distinctive Sixth Form Diploma equips students with a broad portfolio of skills and experiences that help them stand out when applying to universities, apprenticeships, or future careers. From leadership training with Intent Leadership and mentoring opportunities to practical skills such as self-defence and car maintenance, the Diploma builds confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose beyond the classroom.
Students in our Sixth Form also enjoy a wide-ranging co-curricular programme, including Leiths Cookery School, Ten Tors, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), as well as extensive opportunities in sport, music, drama and more. With dedicated study spaces, a vibrant Sixth Form Centre, and our popular Sixth Form Hub to explore, the evening highlighted not only the exceptional academic journey but also the dynamic, supportive community that defines life at Truro School.
It was wonderful to see so many families exploring, asking questions, and hearing first-hand from our current Sixth Formers about the opportunities and friendships they have found here. We extend our thanks to all who attended, and to our staff and students for making the evening such a success.
For those unable to join us, further details about Truro School Sixth can be found on our website (link below), or contact our Admissions Team by email at [email protected].
We look forward to welcoming prospective students back for upcoming taster days, subject breakfasts, and other events as we prepare to greet the Sixth Form Class of 2026.
