Dressed in their finest, students, families and staff gathered for the Truro School Senior Sports Dinner, an evening that celebrates sporting excellence, commitment and community.
Following a blessing, guests enjoyed a delicious three-course meal in the elegant surroundings of The Alverton Hotel, Truro, with an interactive sports quiz bringing energy and fun to the evening.
Throughout the evening, there were heartfelt speeches and shared stories from staff and students. During one speech, Miss Emma Bickley gave her reflections on the U18 netball squad and the wider sporting community at Truro School.
She spoke of the pride felt by staff, highlighting not only achievements on the court but also the way students conduct themselves.
“What’s been even more impressive than the results… is the way the team has carried themselves along the way.” She celebrated their commitment, teamwork and support for one another, describing them as “inspiring role models” for younger pupils, staff and families alike, and extended thanks to all who contribute so much to sport at Truro School.
The presentation of Sixth Form colours recognised pupils for their commitment and contribution across the sporting programme, marking an important milestone in their school journey. The full list of colours can be found below.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards, recognising outstanding individual and team contributions across the year.
Player of the Year awards were presented to:
The prestigious Outstanding Sporting Achievement Award was awarded for the second year in a row to Daisy H, in recognition of her exceptional performance and dedication.
The title of Truro School Sports Ambassador was awarded to Isaac S, celebrating his outstanding leadership, commitment and positive influence within the school’s sporting community.
Director of Sport, Mr Dan Sanderson, closed the evening by reflecting on the deeper meaning of sport and the character it builds. He reminded students that “there will be times in your life where you try your best and fail… my challenge to you is to focus on what you can, not what you can’t.”
He spoke about resilience and growth, praising pupils for the way they have embraced both success and setback, adding that it has been “a privilege to watch you grow, compete and represent Truro School,” embodying a mindset of determination and courage.
A huge thank you to the staff at the Alverton Hotel for hosting such a memorable evening. Thanks also to the PE Department, staff, families and supporters whose continued encouragement enables Truro School pupils and students to thrive.
