Senior Speech Day 2026

Here’s to another exceptional year! The Senior School came together this morning to celebrate the end of an incredible academic year.

Held in the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre on the final day of term, Speech Day is one of the highlights of the school calendar, bringing together pupils, students, staff, governors and families to reflect on a year of opportunity and achievement.

The ceremony opened with a musical performance from the talented Year 12 Band before the arrival of the platform party and Year 13 students. Following opening prayers from the School Chaplain, Rev Helen, guests heard addresses from the Chair of Governors, Martin Ayliffe, and the Head, Andy Johnson, who reflected on another successful year for the school community.

A particular highlight of the morning was hearing from our outstanding Head Girl, Sophie Dickinson, and Head Boy, Zack Rayner, who spoke with warmth, confidence and genuine pride about their time at Truro School. Their thoughtful reflections perfectly captured the spirit of the year and the strength of the community they have helped to lead.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Naabil Khan as our Guest of Honour. Dr Khan is a British medical student, speaker, educator and advocate for equity in healthcare and medical education. She is the founder of Skin For All, an initiative promoting better representation of diverse skin tones in medical education, as well as the Future Dr newsletter and the Very Junior Doctors podcast. Her work has seen her speak nationally on health equity and inclusive medical education, including at TEDxNHS and the British Medical Association Student Conference, and she has received numerous awards recognising her contribution to healthcare and education.

Speaking with authenticity, Dr Khan shared her own journey of building confidence, embracing opportunities and overcoming challenges. Her inspiring message encouraged pupils to believe in themselves, support one another and recognise that success is rarely a straight path. Her words clearly resonated with the audience, providing a fitting conclusion to the year’s celebrations.

Speech Day also provided an opportunity to recognise the outstanding accomplishments of pupils and students across every aspect of school life. Congratulations to all those who received academic prizes, subject awards, colours, merits and special commendation. We also celebrate every pupil and student whose enthusiasm, resilience, kindness and commitment have helped make this such a successful year. Whether excelling in the classroom, representing the School on the sports field, performing on stage, creating remarkable artwork, contributing through leadership and service, or quietly making a positive difference every day, each has played an important part in our community.

Thank you to our pupils, students, families, teaching staff and OPS staff for all you contribute to our community. We wish everyone a happy, restful and well-deserved summer break.
