Sports Round Up 13.02.26

Historic National Finalists – U16 Girls’ Hockey Shine

It has been a landmark week for Truro School sport as the U16 Girls’ Hockey team made history by becoming the first girls’ hockey side in school history to reach a national finals event. Competing at the National Schools T3 Finals in Nottingham, the girls delivered an outstanding performance to finish 5th in the country against top opposition from across the UK.

The team played superb hockey throughout the day and represented the school with exceptional pride, determination, and sportsmanship. A huge thank-you goes to the travelling staff team for their support, and to the many family members who journeyed to watch and cheer from the sidelines. The encouragement from home and in person made this prestigious occasion even more special.

U13 Boys’ Hockey Crowned County Champions

The U13 boys entered their county tournament with high expectations… and they delivered. In a competitive field, the team steadily improved their gameplay, responding brilliantly to coaching advice and building momentum as the tournament progressed.

A decisive match against runners-up Mounts Bay Academy proved pivotal. Smarter decision-making on the ball and sharper patterns of play saw the boys secure the win they needed. They remained undefeated all day, ultimately claiming the title by a single point and earning progression to the regional finals after half term.

Special mention also goes to Year 8 boys Archie J, Ben T, Joe S, Raif C, Josh G, and Jude R, who have proudly represented the Cornwall U14 squad throughout the winter season. Recent fixtures included a trip to Plymouth to face Devon, where Ben produced excellent reflex saves in goal, Josh showed consistent tackling under pressure, and Archie covered huge ground as wing half. Another early start saw several of the squad travel to Taunton School to play three matches against Wiltshire. The boys demonstrated impressive grit, skill, and teamwork throughout. With such a young group learning to combine effectively, next year’s county squad is already looking promising.

Football Success and Honours

The U13 football team continue to impress, recording victories in both league and cup fixtures. Their strong form has also led to representative success: George M, George B, and Jacob G were all selected after two demanding trials to join the South West squad of the ISFA. They will now compete in a national tournament at Haileybury School at the end of March – an outstanding achievement and testament to their dedication and ability. George M has also earned further honours, representing West Cornwall at the annual tournament hosted by Millfield, and gaining selection for the Kernow Select tour to Germany in May.

Congratulations to all our athletes on an exceptional week of performances and achievements. From national finals history-makers to county champions and representative selections, it has been a fantastic showcase of talent, commitment, and school pride.
