Truro School girls shine in national maths competitions, earning multiple awards including a Merit in the Maths Olympiad for Girls.
We were delighted that 13 girls from Year 10 to Year 13 represented Truro School in the recent UKMT Maths Competition for Girls and the Maths Olympiad for Girls. These national competitions provide a fantastic opportunity for students to stretch their problem-solving skills and apply their mathematical thinking in challenging and creative ways.
Some of our recent UKMT Team Challenge participants also took part, showing real commitment to extending their enjoyment of maths beyond the classroom. One of our competitors reflected: “It was a brilliant experience to test ourselves against some really tough questions. We enjoyed the challenge, and it felt great to take part in something that connects pupils with a love of maths across the country.”
We’re also delighted to celebrate Leah’s outstanding achievement in the Maths Olympiad for Girls, where she was awarded a Merit, a huge accomplishment at this national level. In addition, our students achieved seven Merits and one Distinction in the Maths Competition for Girls, a fantastic set of results that reflects their hard work and enthusiasm for mathematical problem-solving.
We would like to thank the teachers who supported the girls in preparing for and entering these competitions. We look forward to sharing with you how they got on and celebrating their successes in the weeks ahead.
This follows on from our inspiring Girls in Maths event last year, which showcased women working in industry who had studied Core Maths, A-Level Maths, or A-Level Further Maths, and highlighted how these pathways supported their careers.
This week, we ran our Year 8 House Maths Competitions, and students in Years 10 to 13 took part in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge. We’ll be sharing their successes next half term.
