Listen! The trees have tales to tell…

This week we welcomed a special visitor to the Pre-Prep as part of our Forest School programme.

To support our Forest School sessions we invited Craig from Squashbox Theatre to teach us more about the tremendous world of the trees, from branch to leaf and twig to root, from berry to blossom and bark to fruit!

Craig, the friendly Forest Ranger and resident tree expert, had a tough time as a cheeky squirrel stole his Chocolate Covered Nutty Snack Bar™, and his niece, Little Red, wandered off the path on her way to Granny’s house. The children enjoyed a wonderful adventure – even though the mysterious old Wizard of the Woods was busy playing tricks again.

The children had help identifying different trees and explored ways to discover the wonder of photosynthesis. They met some friendly forest creatures and encountered crazy characters from folklore and fairy tales!

On top of the Squashbox visit, the pupils have been busy decorating our woodland area. Year 1 and Reception also joined forces last week to write some positive words on tree cookies which are now hanging in the trees as part of our natural art project.

Thank you once again to Squashbox for a terrific tangle of puppetry, storytelling, live music and comedy, with a theme that embraces natural history, folklore and ecology.
