Year 2 Kwik Fire Cricket

Excitement was in the air last week as our Year 2 pupils embarked on their very first cricket festival, competing in friendly ‘rapid fire’ matches against other local schools at Falmouth Cricket Club.

Rapid Fire cricket aims to introduce children to the basic concept of cricket without the need for a bowler; batters take it in turns to bat six balls off a cone and then score as many runs as they can before the fielding team has returned all six balls to their starting position.

It is a fast-paced game of teamwork, tactics and precision which the children have been practising in both PE lessons and in cricket club at school over the past few weeks.

For many of our young players, this was their first taste of semi-competitive cricket, and they embraced the challenge with energy and confidence. Their teamwork shone through on the field as they worked together to field the ball, communicate effectively, and support one another. Their growing tactical awareness was evident in their batting, as they skilfully aimed to place the ball into open spaces, setting themselves up for runs and keeping their opponents on their toes.

Beyond the matches, the children displayed wonderful sportsmanship, cheering each other on and learning valuable lessons about perseverance and collaboration. It was a pleasure to see their excitement build throughout the afternoon as they gained confidence and developed their cricket skills.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 2 team for their hard work and dedication. This trip was just the beginning of their cricketing journey, and we look forward to seeing their skills flourish in future matches.
