Team Bath Challenge and Inspire Our Girls

This week, Truro School proudly welcomed Team Bath Netball for a series of inspirational sessions that brought together girls aged 9–16 from both the Prep and Senior schools. The event was led by two accomplished guest coaches, Daisy Harrison, a rising defender in the Team Bath Next Gen squad, and Old Truronian Amelia Grigg (CO14), now Head Coach of the Truro Development Centre.

Organised as part of the school’s growing partnership with Bath Netball, the sessions aimed to challenge, develop, and inspire young athletes through high-level skill workshops, engaging drills, and game play. Mrs Newton, Head of PE, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “These coaches will be giving the Truro School girls in their different age groups a workshop of high-level skills and game play which will challenge and inspire.”

Girls selected from across different age groups were divided into three cohorts, where they took part in dynamic warm-up activities and skills-based sessions. Among the standout moments was a lively game of netball ‘stuck in the mud’, combining teamwork, strategy, and quick thinking in a fun, fast-paced environment.

One of the clinic highlights came when the older girls focused on intercepting skills, learning to read the game, anticipate passes, and position themselves effectively to turn defence into attack. They finished the session with match play, applying everything they’d learned in real-time. With one player sidelined due to injury, Daisy stepped onto the court to even the teams, giving the girls an unforgettable chance to face off against one of the top young defenders in the country. Her presence on court offered invaluable insight and inspiration.

The day also included a Q&A session with Daisy, where pupils asked everything from lighthearted questions like “What’s your favourite food?” to deeper ones such as “How did you become a Team Bath player?”. Daisy answered every question with enthusiasm, sharing her journey and offering advice that resonated with our budding athletes.

This special event was also an opportunity for Truro School to formally thank Team Bath for providing top-quality training in Truro. It further strengthens the school’s partnership with Team Bath Netball, which aims to support Cornwall’s most promising netballers aged 14–17 through weekly gym and court sessions and opportunities to trial for Bath’s U15, U17, and U19 squads. The pinnacle of this pathway is the Next Gen team, which competes nationally just one tier below the Super League.

It was fantastic to see the girls embrace netball with such energy, focus, and excitement. A huge thank you to Amelia, Daisy, and Team Bath for delivering such a memorable and empowering day. With continued support and opportunity, perhaps some of these girls will one day be wearing the blue and gold of Team Bath themselves!
