Despite the weather throwing everything at us, it has been an outstanding start to term for Truro School sport, with pupils competing across a wide range of fixtures and achieving notable success at both county and national level.
Our U18 netball team enjoyed an early morning start and a long journey to Southampton, which proved well worth it as they secured a superb, hard-fought victory against Barton Peveril College to reach the semi-finals of the SnS National Bowl. Congratulations! The team showed focus and composure from the first whistle, demonstrating excellent court discipline and growing in confidence as the match progressed. A particularly impressive second quarter saw the team concede no goals at all, building strong momentum through to the final whistle.
Congratulations to Elodie, who was voted Player of the Match by the opposition, and a big thank you to Year 11 pupils Ivy and Ruby for stepping up to support the squad. Miss Bickley and Mrs Tresidder also praised the travelling group for being a delight to coach. The match provided ideal preparation ahead of next week’s regional finals in Bournemouth.
With pitches waterlogged, it has been fantastic to see our Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre fully utilised during games. In Year 9, the girls rotated through rugby skills and fitness challenges in the gym, while the boys enjoyed a mix of basketball, squash and hockey, making the most of the astro. The adaptability and enthusiasm shown by pupils ensured high-quality sessions despite challenging conditions.
Boys’ hockey has started the term strongly, with competitive fixtures for the U12 and U15 teams against Penryn College. The U16s are now preparing to travel to Penryn for the county tournament, featuring several players who were involved in an impressive 5–2 victory earlier in the week. Senior and age-group hockey teams have also been busy with county and school fixtures, continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.
Truro School was proudly represented at the Junior Inter-Counties Squash Tournament held at Millfield School and the Victoria Club in Street. Paddy S (BU13), Tilly H (GU15), and James H, Freddie G, Max LT and Buzz B (BU17) all competed for Cornwall, showing great skill, determination and competitive spirit across a series of tough matches. Some excellent wins were recorded, and all players represented the county with pride. Several will now progress to the next round of the National Schools competition later this term.
Well done to all Year 8 to Sixth Form pupils involved in a highly competitive triangular netball fixture against Shebbear College and West Buckland School. Across all age groups, teams demonstrated excellent teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.
Meanwhile, our Year 7 girls enjoyed a fantastic day at the Cornwall Cricket indoor group tournament, winning both of their matches to progress to the county finals in March. There were excellent performances with bat, ball and in the field – congratulations to all involved.
Football teams have been in action across several age groups against Camborne Science and International Academy and Helston Community College. The week concludes with county tournament action and senior hockey fixtures, rounding off a packed and varied sporting programme.
There was also a range of impressive performances at the cross-country event hosted by the School last weekend.
Well done, everyone!
